JacksonPollockDancer
What a truly wonderful show tonight in Brooklyn, and a pretty cool new venue for me as well. Just finished the 3 hour drive home and am a bit groggy, but I'd like to put down some thoughts here about a snippet of the show. The show really began for me during Lazy Lightning>Supplication. This is where dso reminded me that even though I admit it's kinda frightening, boy do they really get me high, and i begin to really fall into my groove dance-wise and belt out a lyric or two. After being properly supplicated, the first few notes of Mission in the Rain were played. A hoot of joy escapes my lips, what a sweet treat we were about to receive in the first set of this elective show. Now I had fallen into the front of a pocket dancers towards the back left, but just in front of me were a few not quite so loose. One of these guys towards the end of the first verse asks me to take a picture of him and his buddies. Talk about being pulled out of the zone. I guess I'm just a pushover though because instead of saying after this song or later or whatever, i just snap the photo and hold my tongue. Now, very much by fault of my own, i allow myself to spend some time seething about this stoic group in front of who had yanked me out of my groove. BUT, somewhere during that second solo I am able to remind myself to stop bein a little bitch, and listen to the music play. And the music was PLAYING. still not dancing, I just stand there in awe listening to DSO going off, until so much energy has been built up inside of me I might die if I don't do something. My right leg explodes out from under me and i kick somebody behind me, fairly hard. Turning around to make an apology, because it really was a decent kick, I find myself face to face with a beautiful woman named Lisa with a giant smile on her face! It's clear she understands, and instead of me apologizing, we share an amazing hug. That's it, I'm back in the zone. Dso is still tearing Mission to pieces, and i begin to dance and jump and twirl harder than I ever have, expelling so much energy i might as well be an atom bomb. And then you think dso is probably putting at ten times as much energy as me. Scary right? Seriously I don't even know how to put into words how good that Mission was. The song is settling down and many smiles are exchanged in our little dancing squad, another big hug from Lisa, and I shed a single tear of joy because everything just seemed perfect in that moment of time. I think that was the end of the first set, but i can't be certain. So I included the bad because in my mind the bad led to the good, a new friend and dance partner. Yin and yang. I might not always be right, but i sure as fuck aint wrong. If you didn't wana read all that, holy shit mission in the rain was good.

vbf3
Refreshingly great to see them in such a small venue. Brooklynn bowl is now on my list of must see places when DSO plays. Simply stated it was great energy and sound from the band start to finish. Tom Thumb Blues and Mission in the Rain were the highlights for me, although everything was played amazing!!! It was Good Old DSO/Grateful Dead start to finish
Forum MVP Mango Posted May 14, 2013 Forum MVP Report Share Posted May 14, 2013 You forgot "tom thumb's blues"....on which Skip sounded fantastic. I'm guessing since it was a monday night that it wasn't too crowded in there. Last time around it was crazy in there.

Forum MVP Tom Banjo Posted May 14, 2013 Forum MVP Report Share Posted May 14, 2013 Its always crowded at the Brooklyn bowl for Dso. Lots of sports fans watching TV and the new york dead scene has a lot of standers and talkers. All that being said, I had a great time and found myself in good dance space. Thank you dso and crew for all you do.
