Moonknightpaul
Looking for a friend just someone to talk to and hang out with, I'm going to the Nov 27th show at WPU and could get a extra ticket if someone wants to go with me I have been clean and sober since 7/13/88 and don't smoke anymore. I'm from Northern NJ, married for 23 years seeking friendship with someone male or female (not friend with benefits) is into Jamband music. My wife is not into "That kinda music" I love to go to shows. Love the DEAD saw them over 100 times.Been to over 300 concerts in my lifetime. I'm 46 My wife wanted me to find a friend just someone to talk to and hang out with, she suggested I find someone to hang out with that has interests same as me. I use to do everything with my 2 sons but they are both in college now and don't have time for me. Thank you for your time Paul
JenL1125
That was pretty brave! I'm not going to be at that particular show, and although I don't indulge very often anymore, I'm not a rider on the clean and sober train. I admire how you put yourself out there like this, though. I go to 95% of my shows alone. My husband comes the other 5% of the time, but all of my friends from my GD show days are spread far and wide now. I don't ever have a shortage of people to hang out with at these shows. Good people, good energy, good times. I've met one great guy from this forum (HI, Aaron!), and I've gotten to know several more funny personalities on here over the past several months that one day I would like to meet up with. I hope you meet some nice people from this post that are local to you that you can hang with. It can be tough making friends at every stage of life. Good luck to you! Forum MVP Tea Posted October 30, 2012 Forum MVP Report Share Posted October 30, 2012 Hey Paul. Like Jenl above, it is difficult for me to get out to shows with the frequency that my soul desires (read: young kids). I too hit 98% of my shows solo and then end up meeting wonderful people when I get there, although I am out on this one. The love for this music is something that binds us all together such that 'strangers stopping strangers' is not the least bit creepy (some might debate me on this ) Here's an idea, when we get within 4-5 days of 'your show' go ahead and post a Roll Call so that folks on this board that will be attending can chime in. This will give you a chance to maybe synch something up so you can find a good group to share the fabulous DSO experience with. Thanks for posting. If/When I get to meet ya, 1st round of ice cold Sprites are on me PEACE!
Rusty the Scoob
Great ideas above! I'd also add: check out your local GD tribute bands as well. The music will be a small or large step down from DSO of course but a good local band will have a loyal local following so you can get to know people closer to your own area and it'll probably be more of a tight-knit community than a DSO crowd who has probably travelled from all over. If you're shy like me it'll take a few shows to really form friendships, then when DSO comes around you'll already know some people at that show, too. I play my area pretty often and it's really cool to see new faces in the crowd, then they start hanging with other people you've been seeing for years, etc. I've seen relationships form too, and it's a great feeling to know I had a small hand in it. This site http://www.gratefuldeadtributebands.com/ is a great resource for finding bands, then Facebook can help you get a sense of what kind of crowd they'll have. Perfect example, met TFT on these boards when DSO was in our area and while I THOUGHT we were hitting most of our DSO shows together I guess I'm only getting 2%. But it's a fun 2%!!! Hey, we're everywhere. I've met Dead buddies at church. Good luck bro, regardless you'll have a blast. I drove 6hrs to Kentucky to get a DSO fix by myself and had a fucking ball. JenL1125
I guess I should have been prepared for that question. Let's see what I can come up with here - hmmm - Over the past year and a half or so I would of have hoped to impress upon you the points that Dso played the best Around and Around that I've ever seen in West Windsor this summer, I loathe Gloria Steinem, love the Welcome Back, Kotter theme song, have given up on the idea that Jerry Garcia should be brought back to life on stage to recreate a deep and glorious Stella Blue, was psyched about this past summer tour although I was sad to see the absence of the AC Hilton, would love more and more JGB to be added to the Dso repertoire, and I hope Paul meets some nice people from his post (which it looks like he's doing)! That's just to name a few of the sparkling bits of wisdom that I've delighted the users of this forum with, and all you've apparently gotten out of it is - absolutely nothing:( You have confused me with a (really funny!) girl with a similar name who I noticed you had some dialogue with a short while back. Ducats, I don't know what to say. I think I'm too hurt to even continue on with this conversation. I'm going to nurse my wounded ego. Fare thee well, Ducats. See you down the road!
