whew, finally have some free time to make a review. musically this show was one of my recent favorites. dso really knows how to throw it down when they do tour closer electives. keep it coming please.

this show was PACKED. i dont know if it sold out or was oversold, but that's what it felt like. there was no space to be found anywhere, trust me i looked. we got our spot right in front of barraco again and i dont know what changed, but i was able to hear his keys and mattson's voice much more clearly this night. the eyes throwing opener really knocked me on my ass and got me dancing so hard i was a sweaty mess almost immediately. luckily anyone who sweats like that must be alright :) i loved the cats, i cant seem to get enough of that song. i'm on a big jgb kick right now. the lazy supplication was solid, has never been one of my personal favorites, but the crowd was really into it. the deal was rocking and tore the house down for the end of the first set.

the second set was where i think the band really hit the sweet spot. i randomly called the viola opener to a friend right before they took the stage and couldnt believe it happened. its one of my favorite tunes and they really did it justice and took it to a lot of really cool places. he was a friend of mine was very powerful and dripping with emotion. its a song i havent heard them do very often in my dark star lifespan. right on into its a mans world which the crowd loved. barraco nailed it and heard more that one person in the crowd who had never heard them do it before praising the talent of the band. on we went right into st Stephen, William tell, the eleven, drums, space , the other one... which was just out of control, space your face, blow the roof off, yumminess. i don't think i've ever heard a better death dont have no mercy and was on the verge of tears more than once. the eaton lovelight was also an added treat. the whole band was on fire and seemed like the music was playing the band, for sure. i didn't was the night/tour to end and LOVED that they came back out with hurts me too and sent us on our way with a dancer such as golden road. that you dark star orchestra, for another real good time! see you out east :)

it seemed like a much older crowd than the first night, which was nice. however unfortunately i have to give the crowd at the boulder theater a grade of F for both nights. i wont go into the details because it was just so bad. i felt disrespected and violated and i was upset for the way the crown seemed to show no respect to the band or crew or to fellow fans. to the band - i'm sorry. i felt like i was back at a show in the northeast, but worse. staff was non-existent, even when i really wanted to find them. by the second set i was able to lose myself in the music and tried to forget all of the crap going on around me. that's the beauty and the power of the music that was being played by this band.

i highly recommend getting in your time machines and going back in time to drop whatever you all were doing that night so you could GO TO THIS SHOW. or maybe you can just buy it when/if eaton releases it if you're not lucky enough to have a time machine.

if you're not lucky enough to have a time machine.

The god-damned Delorean broke down again... Fuckin' Flux-Capacitor isn't fluxing right... I think I'm only getting 1.20 Jiggawatts instead of the full 1.21...

In retrospect, it seemed that lovelight used to be a song in pretty steady rotation for Eaton prior to the band getting into the Pigpen material. Once they started playing those shows, I don't think we've seen as many Eaton lovelights. There have been quite a few though, and quite good especially when done in an original setlist when Lisa could join in.

Cross referencing all Eaton era DSO recreations of Dead shows from 10/16/81 forward that contain Lovelight should be a good start.

Yeah, an even better start would be to cross reference my own dang memory...discovered I was at a show with an Eaton Lovelight in it in '06 doing an '87 recreation.

Seeing this set 2 list from Boulder with all the pigpen made me think of the old school Lovelights that I've seen Barraco do but it goes to show you don't ever know...!

it's been quite awhile since I logged in here, but had to do so to say that the 2nd set of this show, especially, was the best i'd heard DSO play in awhile. they're always awesome, for every show, as we all know. but 10-20-12 set II was really something special indeed! peace :dsorocks:
