Forum MVP bs69 Posted October 4, 2012 Forum MVP Report Share Posted October 4, 2012 I thought things started off pretty well last night, although I did not see much fodder for SNL which is a shame. Both seemed to state their case pretty well and have 2 different views of the future. Looking forward to the others before making a choice. Any thoughts? Forum MVP Rude Posted October 4, 2012 Forum MVP Report Share Posted October 4, 2012 Im so tired of politics. It has become so draining. Living in the south, its amazing how the poor uneducated people are republicans. Many are convinced by the lies of Rush and the other talking heads that Obama will be confiscating their guns, raising their taxes, and making Islam the national religion. The Republican party has demonized education as a liberal institution and people scream socialism while they take advantage of public schools, public roads, social security, national parks, and the thousands of other socialist institutions that they enjoy. Pure capitalism destroys just as pure socialism does. The problem is, we are moving out of balance towards a survival of the fittest economy that will hurt everyone. Hmmmm dont know if my rant was debate related or not On a lighter note, my favorite SNL line after Obama came out in favor of gay marriage, was "ok we get it, you aren't a muslim"
Advisory Board blythalala Posted October 4, 2012 Advisory Board Report Share Posted October 4, 2012 hi, all! as some of you know all too well, i'm not very good at keeping my mouth shut when it comes to this stuff (though i do i find i'm getting better at it with age, so that's probably good). as to last night, i'll just say that it was pretty clear it belonged to romney. in fact, i wouldn't be surprised if that's one of very few things on which republicans and democrats en masse could actually agree today. really, though, i just posted to share this little piece from slate magazine, which i thought was sort of fun. and for the record, i think both candidates are pretty disappointing. and admitting that makes me sad; i want so much to believe in obama. fortunately i live in a state where a vote for the third party candidate is NOT a vote for romney. who, for the record, i think is an idiot. oops. i was doing so well. ah well, <3 lala
sgrmag2564
Although Romney had a decisive victory in the debate, he still will be trailing in the polls in the states that matter, especially Ohio. That "let Detroit fail" comment a few years back sealed his fate in Ohio and Michigan. Without a big surprise in other states, there is almost no way Romney gets to 270 electoral votes without Ohio, I'm not sure President Obama is the answer either. But there is something to be said about being "Presidential" You either have it or you don't. Obama's decision to lay back and not attack Romney, may hurt his poll numbers, but I think it was a classy move and most of the talking heads didn't even see it. We are living in interesting times! Peace, Joe
Forum MVP bs69 Posted October 5, 2012 Author Forum MVP Report Share Posted October 5, 2012 Don't be so sure about Ohio. It will depend on how the next couple of debates go. I will be very interested to see how the VP debate goes, I have a feeling Ryan is going to take Biden to the cleaners. I thought both candidates were pretty civil with each other which was refreshing for a change. We shall see.
Advisory Board blythalala Posted October 6, 2012 Advisory Board Report Share Posted October 6, 2012 I have a feeling Ryan is going to take Biden to the cleaners. unfortunately, i totally agree with you on that one. personally i have a bit of a soft spot for biden. but i wouldn't say that thinking/speaking on his feet is his strong suit. ah well. I thought tonight's debate was a great wrestling match. I'd say it was pretty much a draw. Both candidates met their mark and served their respective bosses quite effectively. Looking forward to next week's prez debate #2.........I'll be shocked if Obama doesn't come out swinging for the fences.......should be fun. Keep the faith. I thought Biden was pretty feisty. It seems to me that there are pretty clear cut differences between the two sides this time, the question is which way the middle will jump. Forum MVP bs69 Posted October 17, 2012 Author Forum MVP Report Share Posted October 17, 2012 I would like to see Gary Johnson thrown in, he might not have a chance, but it would make the debates more interesting.
Forum MVP bs69 Posted October 23, 2012 Author Forum MVP Report Share Posted October 23, 2012 Well that wraps up the 3rd. I think after last night I can safely say that they both make me feel uneasy about foreign policy. They were basically arguing about how much we should interfere with other nations instead of, if we should interfere. IMHO, we should definately stay involved with Pakistan and keep a close eye on Iran, the rest we should monitor, but not get involved. I think it would be a really bad idea to start arming sides in Syria.

Forum MVP Rude Posted October 23, 2012 Forum MVP Report Share Posted October 23, 2012 How to fix our country. 1. Cut military in half. Stop all wars. 2. Increase tariffs to 25% on all foreign goods. This will instantly bring back manufacturing to our country. 3. Eliminate Bush tax cuts.

We need to accept the fact that the old manufacturing jobs are gone and are not coming back (others can produce them for less) and focus on the new jobs being created with new technology. New technology has replaced more manufacturing jobs than outsourcing.
Forum MVP gr8fulpair Posted October 24, 2012 Forum MVP Report Share Posted October 24, 2012 I hate the political jousting that filling one of the most important jobs in the world has digressed to. IMHO you got 2 people engaging in accusational rhetoric while trampling some poor moderator with utter disregard and then hugging it out at the end like nothing happened. Then the meat of the debate starts when the fact checkers scramble to tell us who is more full of shit. I vote for Ross Perot who said in his last debate, "vote for me and I'll see you in the White House Monday morning at 6 o'clock".
