TerrapinJen
Was really tired for this show for some reason.. managed to dance through the first set but took it easy for the second set. sometimes its nice to sit though and really get to focus on the intricacies of the music. found a quiet spot on the grass on the left with all of the families and hoopers. I loved how it was such a laid back family affair. the little kids were so cute trying to dance and mimicking their parents moves. I don't know if it was where I was sitting or the actual mix but Kevin was turned way up and I could barely hear barraco. show was really great, better than second night at pisgah in my opinion. I was bummed that alligator was just a tease and that I didn't get to see any love alligators. it looked like we were in the middle of a swamp and people had pulled their boats up to the shore and got a free show. even though these three nc shows have been great, I'm glad to be heading north today to Virginia. see you all there! tea - I hope you get permission from the woman to be there tonight

Forum MVP Supplicated Velvet Thunder Posted August 8, 2012 Author Forum MVP Report Share Posted August 8, 2012 Ok ok now to my review of this show now that I am using an actual keyboard. My brother didn't come which was sad but he waited up for me and I think we'll get him next year... gotta love goin home and he is due. Met a lady before the show who was saying hi to guy in the front and we had a conversation about how they hadn't been together in many years but were divorcee's and friends and meet up at shows and I smiled really big.... then cold rain and snow started us out and I sometimes wonder if there is a better song to start a show with. I enjoyed the first set a lot but the rest of the crowd seemed to REALLY enjoy it I mean it was NUTS in that lil amphitheater. I think this place REALLY likes having DSO come.... maybe enough to do two nights. People were there really early parked all over and I couldn't keep from selling something or getting at least a hug every step I took (but I got there late and when I did a spin to golden road blasting from someone's stereo some stuff fell of my flight blanket display and I said "fuck it i'm going to the show!" and the people laughed at the purple unicorn and it was silly). So much love at that place! different than black mountain, but still as strong! The china>rider was super and casey jones left the place READY for setbreak Sugar magnolia is a damn brilliant song and to get it fresh out of resting is epic. 2nd that emotion was really fun and heartfelt and we thought we were rockin til Truckin knocked us all down. Electric. Just a warm up though cause the HARD TO HANDLE was ridiculous.... no words.... delightful and hot. So then the cute little flowers come up and want my number as I start swooning into abileine and I obviously never recovered.... they reminded me EXACTLY of my step-sister and I 12-15 years ago and I almost wept. Very distracting emotionally. Excellent space ripping Playin at the end of which the crowd went so wild it was almost deafening. The awesome round and round with the lyric change was soooooooo cool and it made me happy to hear one of those slower tempo early round and rounds. Good lovin w drums in there was great but the dollar and a quarter rap was a great one to hear beside joseph cause he IMMEDIATELY grabbed a buck and quarter from his pocket and slammed it on the stage and when it got to that part those around us (mostly young furthur refugees... is that pc? oh well) cracked up and patted him on the back and I just gotta say Joseph is freakin COOL man, he makes people so happy! So those girls come back by me for UJB and that is THE song for me from my childhood, I used to sing "whoooa ohhh well I want to knoo-ooo-oow where does the time go?" since before I can remember and my parents did NOT go to concerts of any sort. I think I heard my oldest brother playing it and latched on at an early age, though until my first DSO show when they played it and I had just GOT it in and I exclaimed to my dead head friends that took me "I KNOW this song!" and they laughed I didn't even know it was a grateful dead (who I had never liked before) song... how does this song go? So they were holding each other dancing and I was thinking of my step-sister and my family and Jimi the guy I was gonna marry before I started seeing shows and woke up and my work in corporate porn retail and all the people and places that have come into my life since then they sing that verse and the crow told me the same story and like the morning sun understanding shown in and for a moment bliss was just a dirty word and the divine cupped my heart in hers.... I cried like a little girl seeing her mom for the first time after a long trip though it wasn't noticable cause at that point I was soaked head to toe on par with Chuckles.... was still wet HOURS later... silly. Big Bossman makes me happy in ways I can never explain it just feels so good to hear DSO sing this song they just tear it apart and make it that dance party only DSO can. Thanks again! and again and again and again!
