BOND, Colo. — A longer-than-expected recovery period, post surgery, for Papa Mali has forced Bill Kreutzmann’s 7 Walkers to postpone their two-night performance this weekend at State Bridge Riverside Amphitheater. “Due to unfortunate circumstances, 7 Walkers is forced to postpone their upcoming show this weekend at State Bridge,” a spokesperson for the group said. “Band member Papa Mali is recovering from a routine procedure, which has limited his ability to perform. His full recovery is expected and the band looks forward to seeing you later this summer.” But from every challenge comes an opportunity, and State Bridge is currently in the process of organizing an impromptu get-together featuring some of the area’s most talented performers — including members Dark Star Orchestra, Shakedown Street, DeadPhish Orchestra, Frogs Gone Fishin’ and The Congress — for a riverside tribute to the Grateful Dead Saturday and Sunday. “This community is amazing,” said State Bridge promoter Scotty Stoughton. “At the drop of a hat, every musician contacted me and said, ‘What can we do? How can we help?’ Spearheaded by Rob Eaton of Dark Star Orchestra and Jake Wolf of Shakedown Street, we’re putting together an amazing lineup of music.” Also contributing to the 7 Walkers decision to postpone are the circumstances surrounding the High Park Fire outside Fort Collins, which has closed the Mishawaka Amphitheater, where the band expected to anchor their run. “It’s all relative, compared to what our sister venue, Mishawka, is going through this is a minor adjustment. The hearts and thoughts of the State Bridge family go out to them. We offer them our support, and that goes for everyone who is dealing with these fires right now," Stoughton said. Tickets prices for this weekend’s event are $10 per day, $15 for a two-day pass. For those who purchased tickets to the 7 Walkers show, you may either hold on to them for the soon-to-be rescheduled performance later this summer or accept a refund. Patrons who purchased lodging for this weekend will be given a free weekend pass, as well as 50 percent off a future lodging reservation — or they will have an opportunity for a refund. “What you’re going to get is a huge community effort of artists coming out, and it’s the first jam weekend of the year,” said Stoughton. “If you come out, you’re going to see some magic. When people get together for this type of thing, it’s awesome and the improvisation really takes off.” This weekend’s lineup Rocky Mountain Grateful Dead Review was formed in 2005 from the top players of the foremost Grateful Dead tribute bands in the Rocky Mountain region. Based originally on a premise of player interchangeability to suit the situation, the band's forte lies in its faithful rendering of Grateful Dead material and its trademark style of improvisation. With authentic comprehension and precise execution of the material, the group seeks to connect with the elusive “X factor” that Jerry Garcia affectionately spoke of. RMGDR remains aligned with the Dead's creed of playing off the energy of the audience, making it an integral component in the overall dynamic of the show. The Congress is a rock and roll machine. Founded in Richmond, Virginia as an open mic hosted by bassist/singer Jonathan Meadows and guitarist Scott Lane, the band was transformed into a live music powerhouse in 2010, planting its feet in Denver and eventually adding drummer Mark Levy. At a Frogs Gone Fishin' show, concertgoers are treated to heavy-hitting funk-rock traditionalism combined with a modern improvisational twist. On any given night, the Frogs cut across genres and material from their two albums and never play the same set list twice. This diversity of song choice and explosive improvisational energy has garnered devoted admirers in the country’s most prominent and historic musical hotbeds.
