Live Stream Of Mighty High Festival

You don't know how much I appreciate the fact that this show was streamed live last night, Dino. I had hernia surgery on Friday that I had been needing for almost a year (yeh, I coulda took care of it a long time ago, but was not looking forward to going under the knife), and I am under house arrest for about a week. This stream gave me the benefit of hearing the show without putting myself at risk by being there, and for that I give a major THANK YOU to all involved in getting the technical stuff worked out. I don't recall DSO ever having done this before, but I am not alone in stating that live streams (not digital quality to mess with future Nugs releases) of your shows would really help out those who can't be there, and I believe could also garner the band new fans. Just a thought.

I have no idea who taperrob is on UStream, but I have heard his streams of some furthur shows from their last tour. I appreciate the sacrifice to get some folks home on the couch just a little taste of the sound even if the quality is often times challenging.

It sure would be great to get a stream from DSO from time to time. Hell > plug in a lapper or a smartphone with a couple batteries and you would be off to the races. It's no Eaton remaster, but I will take what I can get.

I thank you kindly for the best wishes, Ed. Am planning on sneaking out to Bergen PAC this Thursday night, if I feel up to it, for a very mellow time in the dance department! No, seriously, if I do make the effort, it will be slow-going, and I will likely spend most of my time seated, or standing and swaying just ever-so-slightly. Would hate to miss my last chance to see DSO until August! My plans are to get back to work by the Tuesday after Memorial day, if my doc gives me the green light. Stay well, Ed... and have a great Summer !!!

I'm glad it worked out for you Topher! A speedy recovery to you.

...But DSO didn't have anything to do with the stream other than playing the music. All thanks go to Taper Rob. Everyone should book mark his page because he does this quite often when on the west coast new york city area ... and he does it with many other bands as well.

I don't mean to come off like I'm yelling at any of you here ... but i guess that's how this may come across .... It's funny because he streamed the whole weekend at mighty high (which he's been doing for years now) ...all the shows and no one put up a link. Someone from every other dead related website had a link to his stream but ours. Philzone had a link, Ratdog board had a link, ...even the Furthur board had a link. All I did was grab one of the many links out there and post it here. Anybody could have done it.

As it stands right now, no one is stopping anyone from streaming any live DSO show. The technology is out there and people do it. From my perspective, streaming should be available in the future as well as I believe it is just the next evolution of what tape trading did for the Grateful Dead ...which was expose their music to a lot more people that would have otherwise not known about the music. The Grateful Dead were unique in not being afraid that taping would hurt their record sales. The out of box thinking really did them a lot of good in the long run as it made a great many more interested in attending live shows. I believe this to be the case with streaming as well.

If you are going to do it, do it right and get a decent set mics or a real good stereo mic. Nobody wants to listen to a stream over an i phone. At this point, that will just cause more frustration on the listeners part than it's worth. But who knows, in the future maybe the smart phone will be good enough. I'd say that's a few years off though. Just as it's virtually impossible now to prevent people from taking photo's at a show, it will be virtually impossible to prevent streams from any live show in the near future. No one is stopping anyone from doing it at a DSO show right now. We, the band, don't have the personnel resources or the time to offer this up to the public ourselves.

Hey Dino > my comments probably came off differently than I meant them to. I think the band has its hands full and should not need to fool with setting up a stream for the fans - I totally get that.

Taper rob has hooked my up with streams over the past year and I owe him a huge debt of gratitude. For that matter, Steve is a freaking rock star for his efforts to get the HQ videos to us from the shows he attends. It is a huge sacrifice that does not go unnoticed even if words of thanks don't get voiced as much as they should.

Frankly, if I can't make it to shows I will take a stream even if the quality isn't stellar. Would I love it to have Primo sound? Hell yes. Will I also take what I can get? Hell yes. All of this said, I would never decide to pass up on seeing the band live in favor of a stream > no matter how good the quality. I am just so happy the band somehow keep getting better and that there are people willing to help share some modicum of the expereince with those not in attendance.
