Forum MVP Rude Posted February 25, 2012 Forum MVP Report Share Posted February 25, 2012 I'm sitting at home sick as a dog and am looking for some new downloads. I just downloaded the ithaca 2k show and it sounded great. I've listened to lots of the archive.org SBDs but want some newer shows. I like new and old Dead alike. Tell me your Favs!! Forum MVP Rude Posted February 25, 2012 Author Forum MVP Report Share Posted February 25, 2012 So I decided to download the 10-14-11 Austin recreation for tonight. Had great reviews and looked like an awesome setlist, but I still want to know your fav DSO SBD's. I only have a few Dead audience recordings that I listen to regularly. I need that crisp high hat and cymbals. I almost feel guilty for downloading DSO as opposed to listening to the Dead, but they are so damned good and the sound quality cant be matched by the older recording equipment. I listened to the 2011 Vic show that I was at with a friend and he was like this is the best Dead recording he had ever heard. He literally kept forgetting it was DSO and he's a dead encyclopedia. Guest L~Cat
I almost feel guilty for downloading DSO as opposed to listening to the Dead, but they are so damned good and the sound quality cant be matched by the older recording equipment. one should never feel guilty for listening to music that brings them pleasure.... as far as downloads go- hard for to say as I don't really have many from recent tours, I just have so much music and no ipod so i've only been streaming lately. but I could probably suggest a few based on shows I was at- Eugene 4/2/11- one of my more recent favorites- actually those 3 nights were all really fantastic shows, portland, eugene, and arcata GAMH 4/8/11 was a really fun elective of course the show at hardly strictly bluegrass in oct 11 was a big show for the band and would be something special to have any elective or acoustic show are fun as they are so unique.... when Eaton gets the summer stuff up, I'd recommend the state bridge show from August. and if you want to go further back, well thats a lot to think about. As always, the 5-19-07 show is always a crowd pleaser. at least do yourself a favor and download the lovelight.... and by the way, it seems to be quite some time since there has been a lisapen lovelight....I think that song got switched over to the old school pigpen in elective once they started doing it... would love to hear her wail on that again. (and thats no slight on Rob B....we all know what he's capable of on that tune! eek!)

Forum MVP Rude Posted February 26, 2012 Author Forum MVP Report Share Posted February 26, 2012 Downloading the 5-19-07 rams head show since 2 recommended it. Since I got this sinus infection, the only thing that makes me feel better is live DSO. My gf said can u please play something else. I'm sick of hearing dead all day lol. I've gotten another friend into these DSO nugs downloads. He can't believe the sound quality. I guess its worth it to have Rob master these before releasing them unlike Panic and others who just upload their SBDs. It would be nice to hear the show again next day as I'm not sure how long I can wait to hear that Nashville show again. I'd even take a horrible audience recording of that show but alas there were no tapers.

Forum MVP Rude Posted March 1, 2012 Author Forum MVP Report Share Posted March 1, 2012 After listening to so much DSO, I had to switch back to some dead and found a matrix of 5-8-77 at archive and found the flac files. I've only heard the audience of this show, but the SBD was remastered in 99 by rob eaton and then they blended the audience recording. Wow it's spacey. After listening to this show, I realized you really can't recreate Jerry when he was on. While DSO is so tight as a group, the dead was so loose at this show and that matrix recording blew my mind. What a difference a SBD makes over a tape.
Forum MVP Tea Posted March 2, 2012 Forum MVP Report Share Posted March 2, 2012 Here is a great show - unfortunately it has disappeared from LiveDownloads. Dark Star Orchestra Live at Variety Playhouse / 2.7.2009 http://www.archive.org/details/dso2009-02-07.mg210.flac16 One of the better DSO shows I saw with JK at the helm. This one you just have to get > it's fabulous! 10/2/11 Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival, San Francisco, CA http://livedownloads.com/live-music/0,7189/Dark-Star-Orchestra-mp3-flac-download-10-2-2011-Hardly-Strictly-Bluegrass-Festival-San-Francisco-CA.html
