Bogarts - WOW!

First off, thank you Taper Ron for the warm welcome. It's great to be a part of the DSO family. For me, and probably everyone here, every DSO show is special in one way or another. But I really think tonight's show at Bogarts was one of the best of all time. I was craving a 70s show, and boy did DSO bring it. The building shook at the end of Truckin' and Looks Like Rain was beautiful, magical. It even rivaled my favorite song of them all - a hidden gem that can never be played enough - Mandolin Wind by Rod Stewart. Before the band went into their encores, each musician stood up and you could tell that they knew they had accomplished something great. I'm not sure if the band knew this, but they probably did - The Grateful Dead played Candyman for the first time live in 1970 at the University of Cincinnati's Armory Field House. They played it again tonight and WOW!

Thank you, DSO. Tonight was special. May the Eyes of the World always smile on you.

Another great review of what sounds like a great show.... This tour seems to be possibly one of the best yet with jeff going off the reviews, hearsay, and having caught some of the vibe in chicago.

Could not be happier for the boys and gal and for those getting to catch the shows. Its nice to be able to feel the positive energy coming from the Midwest and I'm sure will continue on down south. And it's a damn long tour. 25 shows? Keep on truckin.

That's funny, Scott, I was just looking at your pics ~ thank you for documenting and posting here.

That was certainly a great show and a fun crowd! It was great to see all those beautiful smiling faces and get good hugs.

Everyone was friendly... even the staff :hug2:

The entire show was one long party from front to end. And the fillers were excellent. DSO definitely sang my blues away ~ Thank you all for such a good time.

Smokin 2nd set. Gotta give some Lisa some props on Sunrise....stunning. Fun Ohio run. Back home now gonna patch my bones for a while. The band is playing on a very high level right. If you have a chance to catch a show on this tour I strongly recommend seizing that opportunity. I'm out for now- see y'all on the west coast. I'm going where these chilly winds don't blow :)

I always love showing up at the gig to find the Will Call line out into the street, with only 1 of the 2 windows open to serve both as ticket-seller and pick-up. Luckily I still managed to get in at the end of They Love Each Other. Magically, I found a parking spot directly across from the entrance. Now that is a miracle! Even going to school at UC, I had forgotten that Bogart's has no balcony level. The entire crowd is on the floor, and if it wasn't for the smokers leaving at intermission, it might just be a complete lock-up of motion. This makes for a high population density, so it sometimes is difficult to find space enough to call your own. The venue is nice, having multiple bars and easy access to the restrooms, so no complaints there. The staff was cool as well - I saw several times people trying to smoke on the floor, whatever the substance was, and they would shine their flashlight to let you know this is your warning, rather than get kicked out or worse. On to the show discussion.

I happen to love Lazy Lightnin'>Supplication. It really heats up as the tune progresses, and this for me was the best part of Set 1. I realized that I don't know the lyrics very well to Might As Well, so that was nice to hear and give me a song to re-learn.

Set two opening with Samson was really cool. It was an immediate kick in the ass, rather than a slow warm-up. You gotta love Sunrise, with the easy-on-the-eyes Lisa moving and singing beautifully, all the while conducting the endless quest for the perfect earphone level. The rest of the set needs no review. I couldn't stop singing Around and Around in my hotel room that night. What a way to end the set and come back to play Terrapin. That's it for my 4-day "run" of Indy>Cleveland>Columbus>Cincy. Next stop: Jam in the Dam. I've been preparing for this for months. Even got some DVD's from the library about Amsterdam so I know what sights to check out. This looks like it just might be a little bit of fun.

This show was the third show I've been to at Bogarts this year (prior to that I hadn't seen a show there since '08/'09), and the same friend and I stood on the rail for all three. Over that time we talked a lot to a couple of the security guys. Apparently their company just got hired to work for Bogarts, and they all seem to be pretty cool. They told us that for the DSO show, they were given directions to not bust anyone for anything- only to give warnings and never get angry. This atmosphere mixed with DSO bringin' the goods all night made for an all around great show. The crowd was going nuts all night, and the band played as good as I've ever heard them (the second set had some insane energy that peaked in Truckin'). I was hoping a recording would pop up, as there isn't even a great version of the original show available (a chunk of the second set is on DP #34, so only a decent aud is up on Archive). Either way, hopefully DSO will stop at Bogarts more often... this venue sucked for quite some time, I'm glad they seem to be getting it together.

It's my first post here, and this seems like a nice place. :)

Now THAT is friggin AWESOME! Wish every place had security with instructions like that!
