Forum MVP Ammagamalin Crew Posted January 18, 2012 Forum MVP Report Share Posted January 18, 2012 Both sugarmegs and archive.org are blacked out because of some congressional act that is trying to do away with our right to free music. Any info people? I'm a streamer not a downloader, since I have the 1800 cassettes and 1000+ VHS as a back up, I've haven't had the energy to copy except to trade with people on this site. Forum MVP Tea Posted January 18, 2012 Forum MVP Report Share Posted January 18, 2012 If I am not mistaken, this is a 24-hour (12 hours in the case of archive.org) self-imposed blackout as a show of solidarity against an anti-piracy bill (SOPA) that is currently in committee. News reports suggest declining support for this legislation but there is still some risk of it going to a vote in the Senate. Here is what SOPA is and what you can do to make your elected officials aware of your opposition. http://money.cnn.com/2012/01/17/technology/sopa_explained/index.htm Support for SOPA is support of the suspression of ideas and a first step towards controlling what information you can access on the internet. Last time I checked we were not living in China......
