DSO Cosmic NYE run quiz/scavenger hunt:

There are two types of songs you can list here: (1) Songs that were repeated at least once during DSO Cosmic NYE run shows (Dec 28th - 31th) OR (2) Songs that were not played at all during this run. We got to hear many songs, just about every one, one could hope for except for that rarely played song that YOU like or even don't like so much.

EX: They did NOT play a Cosmic Charlie

(I won't give an example for ones they repeated cuz so far, I only know of 1 song that was repeated during the run. I am sure it is plenty difficult to find past GD shows and not to have repeated ones.)

Never be sorry for replying to my post brother...always glad to hear from ya. However, I may be the one to offer some apologies here cuz I am not ready to give you the answer just yet. I think there is just one song they repeated...Ask John, he's good at setlists. (You get a prize, the next time I see you ...:)

Dire Wolf was the repeat. No help>slip. No cumberland. No two souls in communion. No comes a time. No dew, No sing me back home. No Alligator, No Crazy Fingers. No Estimated Prophet. No Caution. No Viola Lee... there were plenty of songs they did not play. I could keep going but i still enjoyed every note of every song they DID play and I am forever grateful for the music DSO and the crew brought me on this past run. Thanks.

With the exception of "Drumz>Space" I don't think they repeated anything...

Yeah, what is the deal with that? It seems like they play it at about 70% of the shows I've been to. Sometimes they even have this big old rack thing with drums and gongs and cymbals and stuff hanging off of it. At least that offers a little variety.

The GD had hundreds of songs they sang so obviously one could find hundreds that were not played during the NYE run...if we were to limit it to just those songs that DSO covers, we would still be up all night listing songs. But the quiz question makes one think how difficult it must be for DSO to come up with 3-4 setlists from different shows without repeating any song. And besides, it also made me think about those songs I haven't heard in a lng time.

I love this question. I probably spent way too much time coming up with an answer but I think I came up with a pretty killer show using nothing but New Year's leftovers. Also didn't dupe anything from DSO Junkie's show. It probably shows my 80s bias but that was when I was going to shows.

1st Set: Aiko, Wang Dang (Walkin' Blues could work here too), Peggy O (or Candyman your choice), El Paso, Big Railroad Blues, Ballad of a Thin Man (or another Bobby Dylan cover - Stuck Inside of Mobile or Desolation Row would also fit), Loose Lucy, Cassidy, High Time, Blow Away, Don't Ease (or Alabama Getaway if you prefer)

2nd Set: Shakedown, Corrina (I know this is unpopular but I really like this groove), Ship of Fools, Hey Pocky Way, Fire on the Mountain, D/S, Wheel, Truckin', Black Peter, Gloria

Enc. Brokedown Palace

some Jerry gems that were missed were Mason's Children, Mountains of the Moon and US Blues

some Jerry gems that were never fully polished were Lazy River Road and So Many Roads

some Jerry snoozers IMO were Liberty, Days Between, Built To Last, Push Comes To Shove

some Bobby rarities were Bobby McGee, Heaven Help the Fool, New Potato Caboose (Phil wrote, Bobby sang)

some Bobby beer breaks omitted were Eternity, Easy Answers, Victim and Picasso

some Brent bathroom breaks omitted were Easy to Love you, Never Trust A Woman, We Can Run, Just a Little Light and 900 Thousand Tons

some Phil fiascos also ducked were Childhood's End, If the Shoe Fits (Foo Shits we used to call it), Broken Arrow

some tolerable Vince would be Tomorrow Never Knows, Lucy in the Sky, Rain, Baba

some intolerable Vince woudl be Samba, Way To Go Home, I Fought the Law

I think I read somewhere that Deadheads are opinioniated to which I plead guilty. I must also remind everyone that the worst shows I ever saw were still better than my best days at work. It's all good, but some of it is a little bit better. Peace.

Built to last is a great song. It's a song i think the dead didn't play enough (hint hint: DSO should play it more.) The song covers so many feelings lyrically and Jerry has this happy go lucky solo in it that may not be longest but is guaranteed to put a smile on your face. Love those October 89 versions.

Deadheads are the most accepting people around when it comes to race, color, beliefs, syles, fashions etc. However, we can become very very opinionated when it comes to our music...hey we're hippies! We care where it matters! We also care when it comes to Peace, Love, Charity, Justice in the World, Equality and Freedom. There are some folks, non-dead-inspired folks who care about way too many things..."This guy cut me in line...this person shouldn't be doing this or that......this is wrong and that is wrong and everything is wrong til nothing is right and the world just sucks to them. I don't know a single "unhappy" deadhead so I am pretty sure that we are not the latter type of person. But it is ok to care :) ...some of you might NOT care so much for my long-winded responses 8^P

some Jerry snoozers IMO were ...Days Between..

Sorry, my bad - I had meant to single out Days Between but inadventanly listed Built To Last instead. And I think Built is a fine song. But Days is legendary material. If only Garcia had more time in his better years to really develop it. Anyway, that's where I wanted Stone to step in and help out...

I think maybe I could have made my point a little more diplomatically. I thought the game was to try to make a setlist of the remaining unplayed songs. What I should have said is a show that included 1st: Aiko, Wang Dang, Peggy O, Thin Man, Loose Lucy, Cassidy, High Time, Blow Away 2nd: Shakedown, Corrina, Ship of Fools, Fire on the Mountain D/S Wheel, Truckin, Black Peter: Enc Brokedown Palace would be preferable to let's say 1st: Easy Answers, Push Comes To Shove, Never Trust A Woman, Childhood's End, Eternity, Easy To Love You, Liberty 2nd: Victim, Samba, Built To Last, Picasso D/S Way To Go Home, Shoe Fits, Days Between, We Can Run Enc. I Fought The Law And for the record I agree that Days Between was really coming together and Lazy River Road and So Many Roads I thought had achieved excellence. All in good fun. I am also very open to the idea that some of the musicians in DSO may really love some of those 90s tunes and take them to remarkable places in the future.

I live to be corrected - ask my wife! Loved the New Year's Eve show. Thanks for the Lovelight rap, the killer Fantasy and all the great jamming. That Big River jam was one for the ages. Can't wait til you guys come around again. Have a great time in Amsterdam. Hit the Van Gogh musuem if you have time.
