Anyone heard the new Tom Waits album, Bad As Me?

I think it's really good. Some great tracks such as Chicago, Hell Broke Luce, Talking At The Same Time, and Satisfied. Also has some good guest performances. I highly suggest checking it out if you haven't.

I like his new one a lot.

An argument can be made that he's the greatest American songwriter ever. The proof is right there for anyone to find in every one of his albums. All those fuckin songs! To me, the depths of his brilliance is mesmerizing.

Pure, unadulterated genius.

Here's one from some years ago for any Waits newbies out there.

Just try not to break down.

From closing time to bad as me, all of his albums are amazing and filled with gems. My three personal favorites are nighthawks at the diner (which is the one that got me hooked), rain dogs, and mule variations.

I WOULD argue that he is the best pure song writer and composer. His arrangements are so interesting and unique. No one has a mind like him. He hears music in a very different way then most human beings hear it. As a musician, I have a huge appreciation for all the effort and thought he puts into every detail of every song. As you said, "pure, unadulterated genius."

Like the grateful dead, there will never be another Tom waits.

Also, I got this pretty stellar bootleg from a show of his in el paso in 2008. I'd be willing to send you a copy of it if you want to send me your address. That is if you don't already have it.

Not sure if any Waits' newbies are taking an interest but here's a rocker that would have fit on Let it Bleed pretty nicely. This one needs to be turned up to about 1:30 on the dial.

I just think anyone with any taste in music who is not tuned into this guy should listen to him and open that door.

Kind of like Coltrane or someone like that.

Both great tracks!

Here's another one off of Mule Variations.

Also, as a bonus nugget that further cements his place in history as a creative artist and genius, I present you with this video.

For whatever reason, I can't embed the video, but do yourself a favor and copy/paste into your browser.
