Living With A Bible-Thumping Right Wing(Nut)... Just Need To Vent!

So I need to vent here, as I just got done with a pretty heated yelling match with my grandmother over something so stupid in my opinion...

My grandmother (I love her, but can't STAND her political views) just came into the room bitching, almost yelling, about how her beloved radio station (Christian Family Radio 107.9) just switched formats to an all Spanish speaking/music radio station. She is livid, saying that they are infringing on her American rights, by making her listen to a Spanish radio... Yes, I told her to change the channel, but she says she shouldn't have to do that. She was born and raised in America, and how dare those Spanish people taking over her radio station. The radio station she always listened to is a Christian Music radio station, which is all she listenens to.. She is now blaming Obama for all of this.. God what a fucking joke! Anything that ever happens in this country is because, and I quote. "That ****** Muslim who isn't even an American citizen is ruining this country"... Apparently Obama is the reason the country is in the shitter economy wise, and George Bush was the greatest President that ever lived. Now this is a woman, who goes to church 3 times a week, teaches Sunday School to Pre-Kindergarden children, and has the Jehovah's Witnesses (whom are black, lol), over every Wednesday to read from the Bible. She constantly says how we all need to love one another, and blah, blah, blah, yet she absolutely HATES ANY race, or religion (especally Catholics), that isn't white, or Luthern/Methodist. I swear to her god, that she is the most hypocritical, racist, and stubborn person I've ever met.

Anyway, back to the radio station thing... I did some research and found out that the Christian group that owned the radio station sold it to CBS. Well she is hell bent on calling CBS and giving her a piece of her mind. It didn't even cross her mind that maybe she should ask the Christian group why they sold the station.. She is now in the other room, trying to figure out how to block anything on the TV that is related to CBS.. I swear I can't make this shit up...

I don't know about any of you, but do any of you have to live, and/or deal with any body with this type of behavior? I try to bite my tongue as often as I can when she starts up her political rants, but this one pushed me over the edge. I'm not even a Democrat (I'm Independent). I have strong beliefs on both side of the fence, but she's as right-wing as they come. I honestly think that one day, she's gonna go off on her anti-ANYTHING-NOT-REPUBLICAN rant, and I'm gonna lose it and climb a clock tower and start shooting...

BAHHHHH!!!! HELP ME!!!

ohhhhh I can relate! (though I cannot say I don't hold a few conservative-like beliefs myself, they are more in-the-middle; socially, I'm about as liberal as anyone else here).

But I can completely sympathize with your situation. In between living in NJ and moving out here I had the joy of living with my parents for about 6-7 months.

First of all, you all know I do not watch TV, don't even own one now, to begin with. I considered my home in NJ a retreat of peace and quiet. So once my life changed drastically, not only did I have to enter the world of NONSTOP television blaring, sometimes more than 1. I had the pleasure of walking through the door after a 1 1/2 hour commute on 78 to hearing the ridiculous histrionics of Mr. Glen Bleck Every. Single. Day.

I eventually changed my hours and made it a point to come home after 6 PM once the regular news was on. At least i'd have a couple hours of normalcy before Bill O'Reilly started at 8 PM. Then was "crooked face" (Gretta) and finally Sean Hannity.

I took up yoga. Breathed deeply. And mostly kept my mouth shut. Arguing is not even worth it.

I was very happy to find out about 4 months after I moved here that my dad stopped watching Glen Bleck and Bill on a regular basis. Christ almighty, our poor oldest dog Bogey would get so anxiety ridden during that because he could sense my dad's anxiety levels rise as Glen performed his fear mongering tactics.

I returned home after a few months to find a much mellower dad and dog.

I think your grandmother and my father would probably get along well. Though he is not really religious in any kind of way. He actually once told me that he admires us deadheads for keeping the community that we do. In the end, he's pretty alright.

My grandmother has about 3 copies of "Culture Warrior" laying around the house... FOX news is ALWAYS on the TV, unless Family Fued comes on or Wheel of Fortune... She was so upset when Glen Beck's show was cancelled.. she actually wrote a letter to Fox News telling them how horrible they were for kicking such a wonderful, and truthful man off of TV..

She actually thinks that Fox News is the only news channel out there that tells the truth... It really is amazing how brainwashed some people can get....

But he doen't like that "Friend of the devil' song.

One of the best sermons I ever heard suggested considering that lyric in juxtaposition with the 40 days in the desert and the temptations. "The devil he's got twenty when your friend's got only ten."

:D

My new boss is rather conservative. And racist. Being my new boss, I really don't go off on her. I tried sharing some of my views, in a non-confrontational manner. She obviously isn't interested in them, so I just put on a nice Sisters and Brothers, or somesuch like that, turn it up a little and go on with my work, while she goes on. I think it's working. She's been much better about ranting at me.
