Penn State Scandal

There are few things I wanted to say about this. First of all, Penn State did the right thing to fire Paterno. The alleged incident was "observed" in a football building. The buck stops with the head coach. For example, when a Navy Ship runs aground, or runs into another ship (I actually was assigned to the USS Coral Sea when we hit a tanker in 1985 and almost sank her) the navy doesn't discipline the Bos'n Mate driving the ship, they fire the skipper, even if he or she was no where near the bridge at the time of the incident.

What about this putz that "observed" this horrible act in 2002. God help me and the fuckhead that is committing such a terrible crime if I ever observe something like that. It never would have gotten to Paterno, I would have grabbed the closest blunt object and busted Sandusky right upside his head and dragged him by his neck to the closest security/police person I saw.

The students acted violently after the news their beloved coach was fired. It seems they were blinded by football. Since that night, it seems they are trying to change the focus of this incident. I love the fact they are engaging in supporting the victims of child abuse.

I am a parent, children are the most precious people in our lives. Protecting them is way more important than any football coach or university reputation.

Peace,

Joe

Kind of, actually very, surprised at the lack of comments about this ugly situation.

Aside from the disgusting nature of the allegations, the part of this that keeps getting more disgusting is the appearance that so many people seemed to have know what is alleged to have happened. The bottom line is that the allegations are about as disturbing, disgusting, infuriating, and horrific as they could get. The fact that the media's attention was primarily focused on Mr. Paterno and his football team, speaks on so many levels as to the misguided things we focus on in our society today.

After Sandusky's interview with Costas, the only question is "why would his attorney let him be interviewed?". I don't think it could have gone much worse for him, which is a good thing if the allegations are true. But I just wonder if there is even a possibility of a fair trial. The current Judge worked/volunteered at his charity, the longtime DA who initially investigated went missing 6 years ago(only thing found was his laptop, minus the hard drive. Hmmmm <_< ), and the overwhelming support for "Joe's" football program leads me to think that there were many, many people who had knowledge of these allegations and did NOTHING. Nothing to stop it, nothing to further report it, NOTHING! The fact that it wasn't reported to the mainstream media until after Joe set the all-time wins record speaks to a huge cover-up on many levels (granted, with all the coverage of the disturbing details, I may have just missed what the reason for the timing of all this is). Just seems odd that there was a Grand Jury about this in 2002 and it is all coming out in 2011. I don't get that. It also seems apparent that the missing DA was not too fond of Joe's program and didn't like the fact that the Grand Jury didn't indite.

Scariest part for me is that I don't think I will be shocked at any of the information that comes out at this point. How fucked up is that? You have a case about sexual abuse of underprivileged children by the person who started the foundation and was the heir apparent to one of the best college football coaches of all time, AT the football programs facilities and now that the shock has worn off for some that JoePa could have known what was going/had gone on and now nothing is shocking anymore.

I know that as people get older, every generation has kind of looked back and said "what has happened to the world", but I just doubt anyone ever figured we would get here.

...in the big lie there is always a certain force of credibility; because the broad masses of a nation are always more easily corrupted in the deeper strata of their emotional nature than consciously or voluntarily; and thus in the primitive simplicity of their minds they more readily fall victims to the big lie than the small lie, since they themselves often tell small lies in little matters but would be ashamed to resort to large-scale falsehoods. It would never come into their heads to fabricate colossal untruths, and they would not believe that others could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously. Even though the facts which prove this to be so may be brought clearly to their minds, they will still doubt and waver and will continue to think that there may be some other explanation. For the grossly impudent lie always leaves traces behind it, even after it has been nailed down, a fact which is known to all expert liars in this world and to all who conspire together in the art of lying.

The Devil went down to Penn State

He was lookin' for a soul to steal

He was in a bind

'Cause he was way behind

And he was willin' to make a deal

When he came upon this old man

Lookin' for a record and playin' it hot

And the Devil jumped

Up on a hemlock stump

And said man let me tell you what

I guess you didn't know it

But I'm a record seeker too

And if you care to take a dare I'll make a bet with you

Now you play a pretty good defense, man

But give the Devil his due

I'll bet a trophy of gold

Against your soul

'Cause I think I'm better than you

The man said my name's Joey

And it might be a sin

But I'll take your bet

And I'll never regret

'Cause I'm the best there's ever been

Joey go rouse up your team and play your offense hard

Cause hell's broke loose in Penn State and the Devil deals the cards

And if you win you get this shiny trophy made of gold

But if you lose the Devil gets your soul.

The Devil flipped open his phone

And he said I'll start this show

I'll start to make your coaching staff

Crawl low, then lower than low

Then he showed the man a shower scene

And he made an evil hiss

And the old man just ignored it

That would derail me, scenes like this

Next the Devil showed him

The red-haired boy who saw the abused son

But chose to further his career

Instead of do what should be done

The old man nodded his head

Run boy, run

The Devil's in the House of the Lion, son

Trophies in the showcase makin' us dough

JoePa does your coach bite

No child, no

The Devil bowed his head

Because he knew he'd won the heat

And he laid that golden trophy

On the ground at Joey's feet

Joey said, Devil just come on back

If this roughhousing happens again

I done told you once you son of a bitch

I'm the best there's ever been

And the Devil nodded and said

We've both won

Joey didn't hear him, he was planning his run

Trophies in the showcase makin' us dough

JoePa, does your coach bite

No child, no

No Empathy for Penn State. Trying to cover up a serious Child Molester for the sake of money and bad plublicity is Dead Wrong! And do not think for a minute that His behavior did not stand out or look Odd. It did. And everyone turned a blind eye or got shut down.
