Forum MVP bs69 Posted October 12, 2011 Forum MVP Report Share Posted October 12, 2011 Given that family circumstances keep me from getting to as many shows as I would like, I have become a bit of a concert movie junkie. I'd like to hear some others favorites that I may want to check out. There are 2 categories; concert movies and concerts on DVD. Here are some of my favorites: For the GD I like "Downhill from Here" probably because I was there and it reminds me of how great it was to be 20 at Alpine Valley. The music kicks ass too. For other bands: "Last Waltz" has to be at the top for movies For concert DVD's U2 Go Home: Unbelievably energetic and emotional show. If you like U2 even a little, this is a must have Rush in Rio: Great 3 hour romp encompassing tunes from their entire history. A great introduction to their music for those not familiar. Led Zeppelin "Live at the Albert Hall" this is the first disc of the double DVD, but contains an uninterrupted show. A great look at the band in it's early days. stlblues
"Hail! Hail! Rock 'n' Roll" My all-time favorite concert movie!!! Love the scene when Chuck and Keef get into a verbal fight.
Forum MVP chuckvegas Posted October 12, 2011 Forum MVP Report Share Posted October 12, 2011 This is Spinal Tap. (Yes, I have taken liberty with the subject matter.) Need I say more? Probably not, so I won't. Except that, as I have mentioned elsewhen, The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus is a real slice of a very special moment in time. Forum MVP Dstone5553 Posted October 12, 2011 Forum MVP Report Share Posted October 12, 2011 This is a great one. STUNTROCK http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0078335/ http://www.sorceryrockband.com/stuntrock.htm This one has a scene with Neil and Devo performing Hey Hey My My that is burned into my consciousness. It's just a scary and powerful thing. It might have something to do with the fact that I had a head full of something and watched this at a very loud volume in a theater when I was in 9th grade. http://videosift.com/video/Neil-Young-and-Devo-Hey-Hey-My-My-Into-the-Black?loadcomm=1 ...and the movie that this is taken from might just be the most burnt piece of material every captured on film. And this little piece had a profound impact on my the first time I saw it. I was in 7th grade and hanging with my twin sister. She had just turned me on to something green for the first time. And she popped this video in. And lot's of us 'younger heads' grew up on this one... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TfdNRZbJvTw

woodpile
Pink Floyd--- Live at Pompeii. I dont know if you would consider it a "concert " since they are playing the ancient amphitheater in Pompeii without anyone else there.
Forum MVP FunkyBass13 Posted October 13, 2011 Forum MVP Report Share Posted October 13, 2011 So far all selections are fantastic, but I have to concur with Chuck: Rock n Roll Circus is so $$$$. I think I need to go play the Yer Blues right now!

Chuck Berry at 60 years old doing the duck walk across the stage and still sounding great. Claptons Wee Wee Hour is smooth as butter.
