Forum MVP John A Posted September 30, 2011 Forum MVP Report Share Posted September 30, 2011 4-8-71 Boston Music Hall Really funky venue. And well attended. The show started gaining momentum mid 1st set with a fine BIODTL, then a rare 2nd That Emotion followed by a Sugar Magnolia which took things up yet another notch. China->Rider was also noteworthy. The essence of this show though is the jam to open set 2. A wild, 45 minute parade of energy; Dark Star>Stephen>NFA>GDTRFB (complete barn burner)>NFA. And Sing Me Back Home is always a treat. Given how late it was getting, and a pretty long drive home, we left during Good Lovin'. We correctly assumed this would end the show. So I don't know about filler. It sound like they brought their usual heat - I hope the trip home for you was uneventful. Here is the list from DSO's site: Setlist: 4/8/71 - Boston Music Hall, Boston MA Set One: Truckin' ; Bertha ; Next Time You See Me ; Playing In The Band ; Loser ; Beat It On Down The Line ; I Second That Emotion ; Sugar Magnolia ; China Cat Sunflower > I Know You Rider ; Casey Jones Set Two: Dark Star > Saint Stephen > Not Fade Away > Goin' Down The Road Feeling Bad > Not Fade Away ; Sing Me Back Home ; Cumberland Blues ; Greatest Story Ever Told > Johnny B. Goode ; Good Lovin' > Drums > Good Lovin' Filler: Tangled Up in Blue Second that Emotion - So Nice! As boggling as the beginning of the 2nd set likely was, the closing salvo looks to it had some furios pace as well. I'll bet RB brought the heat Pig-Style for the Good Lovin. Looks like quite an offering folks..........!

Forum MVP John A Posted September 30, 2011 Author Forum MVP Report Share Posted September 30, 2011 Every one of them words rang true... And while dem words was ringing, the Western Sonoma back roads were glowing like burning coal as we hustled back to 101... We'd been talking about electric Ripple before the show (the make-a-wish show at Landover came up in conversation) so right out the gate when it seemed we were probably in April '71 I thought, "holy shit - we could get the rare electric Ripple tonight!" Not quite, but a fun concept.
Forum MVP Supplicated Velvet Thunder Posted September 30, 2011 Forum MVP Report Share Posted September 30, 2011 awwwwwwwwwwww......... really? REALLY? this year is a long list of should have been there moments..... really, really, really, man. it stings extra when such a beautiful show explodes so close and yet so painfully far away......... it was the show I needed and wasn't there, but hey, Thanksgiving looks groovy and I have a lot to be grateful for so I'm planning my trek across the country once again to be with some familiar faces so we can all be grateful together.
