neutrino
What are you basing this on? Was there some announcement I missed? Regarding who could play lead guitar and keys, let me take a stab at it. err.... How about JK and Jeff Chimenti?? Only thing is, would replacing Russo with with Billy and Mickey be an improvement? While this speculation and rumor mongering maybe great fun..... If past selection is any indication of future staffing.....I guess we'll get Warren "The Guitar Mercanary" Haynes again ! If I had a wish list it would be JK & Bruce Hornsby. Peace, Rob

Forum MVP comesatime Posted September 29, 2011 Author Forum MVP Report Share Posted September 29, 2011 If I had a wish list it would be JK & Bruce Hornsby. Peace, Rob Hornsby would be a GRATE choice for keys !!! you could call him a past member of the GD ... I think if he was looking for a job at the time Brent passed he would have been voted in ... and of course JK on lead guitar ...
SeanAY
JK & Bruce added to the Core Four would be out of control. Saw Bruce at Summer Camp with the Noisemakers and he was AWESOME. Really awesome moment was the "Sunflower Cat" opener; everybody started grooving as if "China Cat Sunflower" was coming out, hooting, screaming, etc. So BRUUUUUCE gets into the "Sunflower Cat" lyrics and the girl dancing next to me goes, "What the hell is THIS?!?!?" I guess not everyone is up on the Hornsby catalog...lol

I've seen him play solo, with the Noisemakers, in a jazz trio, and as a guest with several other performers. He is the most versatile musician I have ever had the pleasure to experience. He often plays a whole concert based on requests dropped off on the state right before the show. At one concert I attended, someone had asked him to play some certain song "using only the black keys". Bruce replied that is really isn't possible to play this song using just black keys, but that he could probably convert it in some other scale that has mostly black keys (F sharp or D flat). Right on the fly, he played this song flawlessly in this new key transcribing the song in his head. The man is an absolute genius!! Having said this, I'm not sure he is the best fit for a GD band. While I certainly enjoyed hearing him after Brent died with the band, I never thought he was the best fit. His style just didn't seem to be as well suited as Brent or the early Keith. Obviously, this is not a criticizm of his huge talent. I consider himto be the most talented keyboard player to ever be on stage with the GD. It's just his particular style just didn't fit as well to my ears. I've heard him play some GD songs solo and with his band. He was incredible under these conditions, but I just didn't feel he meshed as well as when he was on stage with the GD. Perhaps this is due to him being someone who is more suited to being the musical center of the band.

Forum MVP lookyloo Posted September 30, 2011 Forum MVP Report Share Posted September 30, 2011 Dave , this rumor has a little weight to it , especially sense I gained a few pounds eating all this mexi food here in SoCal !!! Mike.....I guess I'll believe it when I see. My understanding is that the "core 4" as you put have no desire to rekindle old things. If Phil continues to play, my gut says he'll play with Bobby and JK, but what the fuck do I know.

Dave , just busting balls with this thread ... I have no idea what the future holds for them , but I wouldn't mind seeing them take another run with the drummers , JK and someone that really knows how to tickle the ivories GD style ...
