Forum MVP Ammagamalin Crew Posted September 21, 2011 Forum MVP Report Share Posted September 21, 2011 Just added to sugarmegs.org April 5th from 1971 NYC. I just love the Tull shows from this era. Not only is Ian's flute playing exceptional, but the piana and organ work and drums were incredible also. This show really highlights the piano accompianment provided by John Evan. Does anybody have info on what John Evan is doing these days? Found the answer: "John has long since left music and now owns and runs a building construction firm." Forum MVP chuckvegas Posted September 22, 2011 Forum MVP Report Share Posted September 22, 2011 I still love watching them on the Stones' Rock and Roll Circus. They were the embodiment of what were called at the time "stone freaks," and Anderson was just getting into his patented one-legged flute stance. Good stuff! Forum MVP Evangeline Posted September 22, 2011 Forum MVP Report Share Posted September 22, 2011 Very cool!! I saw Jethro Tull at the Fillmore East in 1969 or 1970, right after Stand Up came out. Great show!!
neutrino
I still love watching them on the Stones' Rock and Roll Circus. They were the embodiment of what were called at the time "stone freaks," and Anderson was just getting into his patented one-legged flute stance. Good stuff! I saw Tull when very young on their very first tour at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium. They hadn't even released Stand Up at this point. This band was really my first love with R&R. I discovered them due to seeing their very bizarre album cover for This Was at a record store, and buying it simply because I wondered what such a strange group of characters sounded like. I was blown away! I guess I scored some points in Jr High School for discovering these guys before anyone else. Regarding the Rolling Stones Rock and Roll circus, this was a very strange gig. The first time I saw this, I was wondering who the fuck the guitar player was? He certainly looked nothing like Martin Barre, and I didn't think it was the first guitarist Mick Abrahams either. Turns out it's Tony Iommi from Black Sabbath! This was his only appearance in the band. He apparently did it as a favor to Ian after Mick and Ian had a falling out and Mick suddenly just quit the band. The other thing is that this is not a live recording except for Ian's voice. The rest is simply mimmed. I have to say that Abrahams picked a piss poor time to quit Tull! Right after that, they released Stand up, and the rest is history. Who remembers Mick's new band Blodwyn Pig?
Forum MVP Ammagamalin Crew Posted September 27, 2011 Author Forum MVP Report Share Posted September 27, 2011 Tull has a great catalog of Albums esp the first two. I can remember reading the newspaper part of Thick as A brick as if it was of great importance. He keeps on touring, spinning his music in many different ways!
