Forum MVP chuckvegas Posted September 11, 2011 Forum MVP Report Share Posted September 11, 2011 JGB Warner Theater 3-18-78 late show The Harder they Come (thank you), Mission, Simple Twist of Fate, Midnight Moonlight, Gomorrah, Cats, I'll be with Thee (Lisa and Donna Jean nailed it!), Lonesome and a Long Way From Home (epic jam in the middle), Palm Sunday (wow!!) Filler: Second that Emotion and Knocking on Heaven's Door from early show. The original show is one of the Pure Jerry releases, and the aforementioned Lonesome jam was a nice nod to that show. And the venue was like a hillbilly Ledges; I mean that as high praise, too. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but I believe it was only their second time but the operation was very well run (as seen from this side) by a really kind group of folks. It was a young crowd but they were respectful and seemed to having a real good time. So did the band! Everyone seemed on fire and so happy to be playing that show, that it radiated from the stage. Seeing Kevin front and center was a sight. Donna Jean and Lisa melded perfectly, the keys were on fire, and the smiles were constant. JM owned Lonesome. And even knowing the Palm Sunday was coming didn't lessen the impact of its simple beauty. I hate cell posting so will stop with this - if DSO plays there again, please go! Forum MVP chuckvegas Posted September 11, 2011 Author Forum MVP Report Share Posted September 11, 2011 Thanks Chuck. All I can say is I hope someone recorded this!! Some of my very favorite stuff. My pleasure. Still cell... Different airport. These were some of my favorites too. I've almost burned a hole in the CDs of the original. As for a recording of last night, it is something to keep an eye out for. There was an interesting video cam on a boom rig contraption right by my spot for the evening. That could make for some interesting footage and hopefully a good contribution to the archive. Again, I want to comment on the joy of that show and the love shown to Donna Jean on the stage and in the audience. The night was blessed. Thanks to all. Forum MVP Tea Posted September 12, 2011 Forum MVP Report Share Posted September 12, 2011 What a show....too bad I couldn't get there a little earlier to celebrate with Matt and Chuck. I suspect that I will get my chance sooner than later. I recently had been playing the Warner Theatre show almost daily and even shared it 'Topher' a month back. I just haven't been able to get enough lately. Once they started into Mission after HTC, I was reasonably sure that this was going to be the recreation. I have not had a chance to catch too many Mission's so it was so very nice to see this interpretation. Simple Twist simply twisted up my insides - so much passion and energy. So very nice to see Lisa and Donna blend and mesh during I'll Be With Thee - a true gospel. Those 2 ladies crafted this sirens song and it sounded to me like they had been singing together for ages. So very tight. Lonesome was the highlight by a mile. The space-jam (I don't know what else to call it) that formed out of the first vocal go-around was simply Staggering. My jaw just kept hitting the ground...OUCH. JM brought it back home with such pure smoothness. WOW! I had a fabulous time despite being a Wolverine in the den of the Buckeye. It's a good thing I didn't bet the house on the -18 spread versus Toledo as suggested by Matt or I would be looking for another shack - or a touring van doubling as a home on wheels . Hmmmmm. The festival was very well executed despite it's recent inception. A great place to catch a show - I'll hope to make this an annual visit!
Forum MVP Teacher Matt Posted September 12, 2011 Forum MVP Report Share Posted September 12, 2011 I must admit .... I think my favorite song of the night.... the closer for Donna Jean Band ... "19th Nervous Breakdown" ..... WOW .... did Jeff take that one to another level... he was letting the guitar ride low and he was jamming like Chuck Berry and Keith Richards do..... it was fun ... nice little rock a billy sound to it ..... Rob B. was right along with him on that one.. yeah who was the crazy one saying Buckeyes -18 was a lock.... toss that guy in the nut house..
