This was our favorite show of the weekend. We knew it would be good when Jon was playing guitar in the camp after the first night we got offered tickets for Sat by a local who ended up playing with him for a few hours. Joseph was kind enough to shuttle us up to the show early (we got there late the night before, so you KNOW we went super early Sat!). The first shuttles let out right after we got there and it was amazing to see all the people getting off the buses to come to the show. Suddenly, there were tickets in our hands from ALL directions so we passed them all around. One kid had never seen Dead music before and had been camping with his family at the campgrounds the night before and Jon convinced him to spend his $35 on a ticket instead of beer so we made sure he got in for free. Another girl Jon took a chance with because she could have either LOVED the grateful dead or just been coming to a show for fun, but inside we heard her going on and on about what year she wanted it to be and what she wanted the show to open with, so we knew he did good.

These were our FIRST DSO miracle tickets (though people have straight paid our entry before and thank you for that!) and we did not put our fingers in the air once.... MAGIC MIRACLES thank YOU!

I'm a sucker for Promised Land openers. Row Jimmy is not one of my favorites, Jon actually doesn't care for it, but a girl I met had wanted it REALLY badly, so it was very fun to see her get what she wanted. Those are always fun in-show hugs, "hey, your song!"

minglewood loser jack straw deal..... YES. THAT's how ya close a set. Absolutely stellar.

when the show re-opened with bertha good lovin stagger lee, I think I finally realized thinks at home might not be so kosher, but I DANCED it out, knowing resolution is awesome even when the circumstances suck. that STAGGER LEE was AMAZING. I often talk about how the stagger lee solo is one of my favorite jerry solo bits because its what she's saying to stagger lee at the bar, lulling him into her good graces so she can shoot him in the balls... its just so fun every TIME. I think Jeff felt how much I needed it and he just freakin' TORE into it, would NOT let it go, and it was one of the most satisfying stagger lee's bout to get shot solos I've seen or heard.

Estimated eyes was absolutely what we wanted and needed (Jon's favorite part for SURE!) and you know it GOT everyone when as the drunk people drifted to the front during drums, one guy says "don't let go" when it is OBVIOUSLY nfa about to happen.... that is def how you know. this was a GREAT one.

ah, Black Peter. talk about death right up IN YOUR FACE! Jeff always shines in this one, the way he brings the sadness and pain into that deafening roar of freedom.... love it.

truckin brought us all home (we are COMING TO THE WEST COAST, soooooo excited!) and johnny b. goode.... yeah, always good to hear.

glad the werewolves came out there... and yes, the rap was just ridiculous and I swear that place could barely handle the joy. very glad they saved it for the second night!

OH YEAH and

The Deviled Egg finally suited back up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! First time he's worn it to DSO since "then".... he wore it one "other" time, but it came off quickly, though the show had been good that night... the Egg just hadn't felt "right"...............

but it stayed on (horns up most of the time!) the whole show and it has been a while indeed since THAT happened..... thanks, DSO, I miss raging with my man in his Egg, its how we met......... memories all thanks to THIS band.

Before they stole my face, definitely before they stole my heart, I was not able to accept the challenges of life. I was hiding out, letting everyone else deal with it. Now I have fun with the challenges and crashes- they make those blooming moments of truth and light glow that much brighter. I wouldn't be sitting in my living room, packing our shit up (again! hahahahaha yay!) as Jon plays me lazy river road on his guitar in between listening to the various eras of DSO (wow, eras, hell yeah- maybe not in time, but in musical metamorphosis) absolutely ready to get the hell outta here with the most RETARDED smile on my face without THIS band. The whole weekend at the shows we were just still happy to be "home".... but "home", for US, has always been following this band. Ever since Matt told Jon that people do, indeed, tour THIS band, long before I knew Jon's name, and ever since I met Jon (finally!) at my 2nd DSO show and all he could say was "DSO, I'm gonna tour them, their the best.... DSO, DSO, DSO" I knew that I finally had a place that will always be home..... but I really had NO IDEA what that sentiment meant at the time...

I'm beginning to understand, kinda.

Chuck, we love you. I am manifesting some intense energy for the rest of this one and the coming year and it includes you dancing by our side a LOT. Something is amiss in a world where we don't get your sweaty hugs as we meander to the back of the show on a regular basis. Its been a long, tough year, but it is about to get really, really great.
