Catching Up With Furthur

"What have the audiences been like for Furthur? I get the sense that it's building still and attracting a pretty good range of people, from old Dead Heads to folks who never saw Jerry.

I feel like we're putting out a call for a certain kind of audience and they're hearing it and showing up. Not that it's exclusive or anything. Obviously it's not. But it's a call for that particular tribe that cares more about getting into the ecstatic dance space than they do about whether something is sounding a certain pre-conceived way."

Interesting.

The Phil Zone has or audience left somewhere towards the front of the GA section always appears to have a group of people who consistently attend shows that are there to join the ecstatic dance. It really is something behold. I wish and I hope some of these dancers make there way to some of the DSO shows that I attend. There joy and energy is contagious and truly something to behold. I still prefer my GD the preconcieved way, but joining in the dance is special. Some DSO shows appear to lack in this energy - primarily on the East Coast. However, there was no lack of ecstatic dancing this weekend in Englewood or Atlantic City. I am preparing a DSO tour review tonight. Should surface by tomorrow. I was fortunate enough to catch Jones Beach, SPAC, and Holmdel as well on the Furthur side of things. I will also be heading south for NC, SC, and FL.

shall I suggest a visit to the 418?

DSO crowds have it out here in certain pockets of the west coast. Eugene, San Francisco, and Santa Cruz. Of course, I stand by my assertion that ashland, OR had the best dancing crowd of all dso shows I've ever been to. The last GAMH run had a good turn out of dancers, but it is difficult in the tight space there. Many folks will head to the back or the balcony to find space.

After being pretty immersed now in the west coast for a year, it will be interesting seeing a show on the east coast again, whenever that time comes.
