While I understand the frustration of the venue change......My sympathy only goes so far..

Think about this..Since June 1st of last summer the State of New York has had DSO perform 16 Times...

The state of Missouri where I live.. exactly Twice.. and that is because they played a rare show in Columbia..and BTW the two drummers and the Lighting Technician are from here!

And did I even mention the plethora of shows on the States that Border New York?

Shall we compare quantity of shows in Arkansas -v- Connecticut....or that weird place called New Jersey that should actually secede from the union and be it's own Country

I need some Cheese with My Whine...and New York Steve I am in no mood. for Missouri bashing from you sir when you did not get the proper tour from either Koritz or Myself....

BTW the Mets are going to get spanking tonight from the 10 time world Champion Cardinals...Beltran has still never recovered from that Uncle Charlie he looked at from Adam Wainwright that had the Mets sucking their Thumbs and going home..in the NLCS in 2006...Whoop...Whoop!

there was this young boy, maybe five years old, dancing wildly to the music, grinning from ear to ear.

All children but one grow up.......yeah I had fun that night. The "Hurts Me Too" and "Comes A Time" were magical for sure.

New Jersey has issues.....

I'm not going to sit here and defend Jersey...but just ask Vegas when he gets back. On Friday a bunch of us will be at a beautiful Resort and Spa in the Mountains http://www.crystalgolfresort.com/PhotoGallery/Minerals.aspx and then we will go see DSO 35 minutes away. Travel Saturday 1 1/2 hours to a beautiful South Jersey Resort Beach http://www.google.com/search?q=ocean+city+new+jersey&hl=en&biw=1440&bih=817&prmd=ivnsm&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=rs0lTtn3HYjd0QHmwvDqCg&sqi=2&ved=0CGwQsAQ and drive 20 minutes Saturday night to see DSO again in a happening Atlantic City Casino.....which pisses on the Pageant btw.You guys who only see the New Jersey Turnpike have no idea. Good luck catching the Pirates! Peace Muddy.

I've done a lot of research in the field, and I'm still working on my self-help book- but I thought this advice was pretty sound:

Things you can do to prevent yourself from shaking your manchild:

  1. Get enough rest. Being kept up all night by your manchild's screeching video games and Aqua Teen Hunger Force reruns can cause fatigue and a lessened ability to control emotions. Try asking a friend or a neighbor to take your manchild for a few hours to a movie or a ribs joint so that you can get a little sleep.
  2. Leave the room. When you see your manchild exhibiting infuriating behavior like cutting his toenails onto the living room carpet, take a deep breath an ask him calmly to use a trash can. If he refuses, take a power walk around the neighborhood to let off steam.
  3. Bridge the communication gap. Remember that when you hear your manchild yell from the refrigerator, while letting all the cold air out, about how he can't find the ketchup and that he thinks you're out of ketchup even though the ketchup is in the door and you tell him this every time and he never looks there, he's yelling because he doesn't understand how else to express his needs to you.
  4. Ask for help. You don't have to take care of your manchild alone. Lean on your husband, your family, or the manchild's college friends who have since gone to grad school and now have lucrative careers.
  5. Consider your options. If all else fails, you can leave your manchild on the steps of a local movie theatre or a Chipotle restaurant in the hopes someone else takes care of him. Anything is better than hurting him.

Those 700 sweating bodies would be a lot less sweaty on Paper Mill Island in the middle of the Seneca River. My understanding is the venue was changed because of poor ticket sales. True? It will be interesting to see what the turnout at the Westcott will be. Far from 700 I'm sure. I'll be there though. Look for me, I'll be the tall sweaty guy.

It's funny you mention the Shea Center at WPU as a textbook example of uncool places... that was my first DSO show, and I still found ways to make the most of the evening! The show itself, a fine elective that featured one of the first "Hurts Me Too"s by the band, had Lisa looking and sounding like a woman possessed! So good was this version, that my spine was tingling by the climax, and the place ERUPTED in deafening cheers and hoots when it was done. Lisa smiled, and took a bow. She must have realized what a special treat this was for us, and it made my night! I also recall a sweet, heartfelt version of "Comes A Time", which is not played very often, and John really had the crowd's ear for this tune. I also remember that, even though dancing was almost impossible, there was a flat section between the lower orchestra section and the upper seats,

Thanks, Lisacat, for causing me to re-live that night in my mind. Now, if only a recording would surface...

Topher ,

I agree with your take on the show.....The venue may have not been the greatest

......The neighborhood may not have been the greatest

......Security forces seemed a bit overzealous

......Traffic nightmare to get to the venue (parade, closed many streets)

.......Snow falling as walking across parking lot into venue

But,

The band was on fire........

Song selection impressive.......

Musically tight show.......

DSO playing in an arena the Grateful Dead played @ in the past.....

Dancin' with friends.......

IMO-

It all comes down to perspective....Am I gonna focus on the negative or positive aspects of the show?

I choose to let the BS slip away & embrace the truly amazing points in any performance( or day for that matter) !

Peace,

Rob

I agree musically it was a great show. What I thought was a shame was the lack of audience participation- partly because of security antics and partly bc IMO it was a bit of a lame crowd (I just remember turning around and seeing soo many people sitting and staring). I felt bad for the band because we couldn't give as much back as we would have liked. Maybe the band doesn't care, but to me is just an enormous part of the equation. If you would have taken that same performance and say put it at the Fillmore, it would have exploded with energy.

I have to pull the plug on the AC show....

I got a better offer from 2 girls I can not refuse..

Ellie and Madi ... 2 of my nieces (5th grade and 7th grade) asked Uncle Matt to take them to Cedar Point the Amusment Park.. ..

you all have fun without me ( I know it will be tough to do ) ...

I got September 10th on the radar ( Ohio State football game during the day with 105,000 wackos and DSO at night with 5,000 wackos )

and then the So Cal MASSIVE RUN ... um yeah San Diego and LA ... <_<

Well that's just silly....I certainly would not want to speak for Band members or crew members from St. Louis but my guess is it has nothing to do with not wanting to play in St. Louis, but with ticket sales, scheduling, etc.

How does everyone feel about the venue change now?

Excuse me while I look for my face....

:dsorocks: we had a great time- it was HOT as HELL and sweaty - but they rocked it! feet still stick to the floor & the ladies room was out of commission so the wife said sharing one bathroom was lame but at least there was tp!

scene was chill- they were trying to give me a hard time about bringing in my one unopened water- "the wife said it says on the web site we can bring in one"- she took it from me and put it in her backpack and walked in- he just shrugged his shoulders and i went in too! had to cut out during brokedown to get home a get a couple hours of sleep before work. the boys were tight and loose all at the same time and everyone was having a great time! they said the venue change was due to not enough ticket sales---people you are missing out! go see these guys!!!! :icon14: some great reviews of the show up already so will just say "thank you ~ for a REAL GOOD TIME!!!
