I just didn't know what I would be missing when the butcher @ Herb's Meat in Boulder told Jonah and I that we should check out DSO. They were playing @ The Fox in Boulder 3/15-17/2000 but when we got to the box office we were told that the shows were all sold out HARD. In fact the next 2 shows in Ft Collins were sold out too. I visited the band's website and found the DSO discussion folder on www.dead.net. I was assured by Everybody's Favorite Santa and this guy Ed Holub that they would be back to Colorado in the summer. So Jonah and I patiently waited for July and we headed up the river. I've said this before, and I'll say it again, I had to take a knee during the opener Jack Straw and midway through Mama Tried I found myself laughing out loud, they were that good!!

Well, Jonah was 5 at the time, it's about 11 years later and he's going to turn 17 in November. He was foot shorter than pEte then....now he's a smidge under 6'5". We've lost track of how many DSO shows we've seen over the years but I mist say that we're really looking forward to circling back at the Mish next month.

This was taken @ the Mish in summer 2002....that's Taper Ron in the background walking and I believe that's Annie with her back turned.

I LOVE DSO!!!!

Congrats looky....

I hopped on this bus 1/22/99 in Louisville, KY...dragged by friends despite my resistant kicking and screaming.

JK + Loser was my take a knee moment. I believe I cried as opposed to laugh.

Something about people born on 2/7.......

Congrats Looky, I remember you from the old boards, they weren't as complex as this site tho. I went by Joe O. back then. I threw a couple of reviews up there years ago. I remember Herdy, Looky, and a couple others from those days.

I'm coming up on my 10 year, Aug 31, 2001 Norfolk, VA, Show 539. What a show it was too! 9/10/72 Hollywood Palladium. I have no idea how many shows it has been now, probably getting close or exceding my Dead number by now. I wouldn't know for sure because I don't know how many Dead shows I saw either. All I know is that it's been lots of nights in lots of different cities, but all with the same smiling bliss as the last...oh yea, can't forget the dancin!

Peace,

Joe

Guest jazz-man

I checked out DSO because Everybody's Favorite Santa suggested I do and I am forever in his debt! It was love from the first chord! I'm going to have to find out the date of my first show, it was at the Crystal Ballroom in Portland, OR in late 2001 or early 2002. And I've dug every single show I've been at!!!

I'm pretty friggin jazzed. Jonah and I are set to make the trek up the river. 11 years, twohundredsomething shows, countless miles on the car, across an ocean, and at times felt like another universe.......I really love this place. It's not just the band, it's all of you, it's this community we've carved out, our little corner of the universe. THANK YOU ALL FOR MAKING THIS SUCH A SPECIAL PLACE!!!

I remember that I used to sign off before shows with "If you see me stop me and say hello....I'll be the 6' red head with 5 year old in tow" I guess now I'll have to say "If you see me stop me and say hello......I'll be the 6' red head with 16 year old in tow....and he's 5" taller than I am"

:dsorocks:

Lookyloo, amazing story and congrats on 11 yrs. Wish I could say the same, but for years I listened to the nay-sayers on DNC. Years later I've come to wish that I had listened to Rob E. and CM about DSO when both were active posters on DNC. Boy, did I miss years of good music and enjoyment.

Ahhh....the DNC days. I have not posted on DNC since probably 2003. I got so tired of the negativity, so tired of being called a DSO-shill, really tired of the elitist attitudes that made it so difficult for me to express my opinion about DSO.

Amen. I remember reading it (very rarely posting for the reasons you mentioned) and seeing you, Rob E. and Cam fighting the good fight. Then came the earlier iterations of this board. The past was prologue and the rest is history. There never has been any of the "Deader than thou" 'tudes here that you can still find elsewhere. IMHO.

Chuck, I still remember meeting you when you started coming to shows. Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't it Portland and RW needed someone to "watch" the soundboard during set break and I said to him "that's Chuck Vegas from the forums, he'd love to do it..." and that was that.
