Mr_Charlie
I have seen them twice since JK joined and will see them again later this summer. I think both Furthur and DSO are better with the change and wish JK all the best. Just wish they would let JK sing ALL of the Jerry songs, and if the show from Tri studios is any indication I may just get that wish.

Forum MVP Supplicated Velvet Thunder Posted June 17, 2011 Forum MVP Report Share Posted June 17, 2011 I think we've seen DSO and Furthur 20+ times each since he joined, and though we are still prone to "gone are the days" syndrome, which can still get rather emotional, we really feel deeply and incredibly blessed to be able to witness the transformation of DSO and the creation of Furthur and watch both bands work out their kinks and find direction. All the music I have ever loved in my life it seems I was born too late for, but knowing that we get to be a part of THIS here, and now, makes all of that okay. Lots of people are talking, a genuine sentiment seems to be grabbing many that this is the last great peak of the Dead, and seeing JK help catalyze and facilitate that is one of the most beautiful stories that will go down in Dead lore. We were in lot in Chicago on the way to MSG and we were showing a friend our "John is my Jerry" sticker on our crystal case as we set up and this older dready guy came by and was like "that is SO sacrilegious and stupid, Jerry Garcia changed the world, man" and as he walked away I called out after him, "Jerry changed the world one person at a time, man, and John changed ours" and we thought he didn't hear, but a few minutes later, as I busied myself with set up, he came back up to us to say, "hey, sorry guys, you're right, that's really cool, man" and give us hugs. THAT was cool. A lot of emotions were stirred up for people going to see John play for the first time in Furthur... at first it was all resistance, but now..... NOW, we know a handful of people at least who will never miss another DSO show in their area because after seeing Furthur, they went to see what was up, and fell in love, because he broke their resistance to things sounding so wonderfully familiar instead of so different, just like DSO does every time they play. For him to get the chance to bring that love to the greater community is so breathtakingly beautiful! And we sincerely hope that Furthur does not end. We'll continue to go see them and DSO and whoever else is bringing authentic Dead vibes to our life for the rest of it, and every day we are just soooooo grateful to have that opportunity. tbones
Definitely not a flash in the pan. It will be 2 years this fall. It feels more like a decade. From the luxurious start at the fox and the exhaustion of 12 rehearsals to the massiveness of MSG and the weirdness of shoreline. Its been a wild journey. I've seen 47ish shows since it started. So many good times. Im so thankful. Its boggling to think what it must feel like for JK to be in those shoes. Ive got massive respect for Bob and Phil to pick all youngsters to take this ride furthur. Its wearing off on them nicely. I appreciate how these forums have evolved in the support of the band. Thanks everyone that keeps the good vibe rolling and keeps my interest here. Happy Fathers day PAPAS!!!!!!

Wouldn't that be something to say the least!! I was very surprised that Mickey and Billy didn't make an appearance at Phil's 70th B-day show. I was really hoping to to see all four of the original GD playing onstage with JK. I hear there have been some tensions, but you'd think they would bury whatever hatchet might exist for that one night. Just seems like a blown opportunity, which may never happen again. What a trip that would have been for John, and what a treat for the audience. Well, I suppose there is always Bobby's 70th...
Forum MVP cm_hayden Posted June 23, 2011 Forum MVP Report Share Posted June 23, 2011 Mickey and Billy not being there speaks volumes, even with Billy's son working at TRI.
