Park Hours?

Does anyone know how late the gate is open at the park? I was originally intending to set up shop on Thursday morning, but I got roped into a business trip that week. My plane lands in Grand Rapids, MI at about 8:30, and I'm looking at a 4.5 hour drive from there. I'd be willing to drive to the park that night, and I'd love to get in, but I'm assuming the park gate wouldn't be open that late. I could also drive and pull off somewhere for the night and just enter when the park opens.

Anyway, I'm DYING over this trip because it also means I'll miss DSO in Chicago and Grand Rapids before Gfest! Ye gods!

They are open 24 hours during the festival!!

My friends always arrive 2-4 am and they've never had problems!

Haha excellent! I guess I'd better get a good nap on the plane, and a few jumbo coffees! Thanks for the help!

one thing to keep in mind is there is a daily charge for getting there one to two days early. Its not much only like 10 or 20 bucks, but the daily charge starts at like 8 each day. I got there at 6 in the morning last year on thurs, and they wanted to charge me for 2 days because it wasnt 8 yet. Wasn't a big deal just went and got some breakfast and came back, but just a thought for ya..

Starhead--

Thanks for the heads up. I knew there was a fee for the addition night camping. Based on how many people are bound to show up between 3 a.m. and 8 a.m. (probably not TOO many, though you never know with this crowd B)), I might just wait until 8 a.m.

I remember getting lost on my first trip to the Ledges and ending up at this tiny hole in the wall diner asking for directions. It was off 282, if I remember correctly. Does anyone know that place?

I think that diner is on 422... it's called the Half Way Diner  seriously... maybe the cross road is 534 or somewhere thereabouts... east of 305 & 282... closer to the 5 & 82... half way, I suppose. Also, the Short Stop Truck Stop on 5 & 82 (south/west off of 422 east) has good food, cool waitresses and showers. It's a truck stop from Twilight Zone's past and is open 24 hours. I stop there often. In Parkman, there's a nice little Amish type place called JD's Post House. The food is all homemade and fresh. It's sorta small in there but the food is excellent. And they have pie... lots of pie. One of those places where, no matter how you're dressed, they know you're an out of towner. Very nice folks and excellent service.

There is usually someone at the gate all the time. If not right at the gate, somewhere nearby. It's fine to show up early (realizing there may be extra night camping fees involved, I think it's ten bucks a night). But, staying after a big show like Gratefulfest doesn't happen often. After a huge show, the staff may be totally worn out and ready for respite, so they close the park to outsiders. You have to know someone well that can vouch for you and get permission to stay.
