I knew when I woke up this morning that we'd most likely get a scarlet>fire, and a terrapin. I also knew (and dreaded) that Stella would show up (I could feel the 77-78 vibe) and I was praying like hell for wharf rat all day (not because I wanted to hear it, just because I didn't wanna hear Stella) but I knew wharf rat would not happen.

Seeing Stella at DSO without my man to hold (THAT is the song we fell in love to on my porch when it came on the channel and we danced together and I KNEW the freaking words though I swear I had never heard that song before and it was this magical moment, holy crap, but whatever) was not cool. ;) I mean, he listened to the whole thing thru the phone, but you guys really got me sobbing there for a little while, made me stop dancing, made my insides go all weak and my crystal wasn't sturdy enough and I was already sweaty enough without crying and good grief WHAT AN AMAZING RUN THROUGH COLORADO! Sorry for sobbing in your faces, your music moves my soul, and we can all use a good cry in the front row every once in a while I guess.

Anyways, here's the setlist, though I was distracted during the date announcement I had my phone setlist and drove all the way home tonight, and since I'm awake, I looked it up and copied it, made some additions, and here it is:

I had been warned about Fort Collins and this venue sometimes not having the best vibes, but luckily one of DSO's greatest talents is making the vibes of any place, usually no matter how dreary, turn into rainbows of sound, and it seemed everyone had a wonderful time. I got the kid that I gave the setlist to last night to come to the show tonight, and he thanked me all night long :)

at 9:20 I decided enough people I knew were in the front to keep my spot safe, and I knew I had 10 minutes, so I went outside to smoke.... and of course ended up in a typical standing outside of DSO conversation, then something told me to put my cigg out and go in RIGHT THEN and as I walked through the doors they were starting the first line of music never stopped, so I ran as fast as I could while still kind of looking like I was walking (running in venues is NEVER a good idea, even when you think you are in a hurry) and got to my spot. Looked at the clock and it was NOT 9:30 yet, this made me laugh pretty hard, gotta stay on my toes!

I could never have anything but good things to say about DSO recreating a 77 show.... it was just beautiful all the way through!

One of the things I love most about seeing DSO consecutively is that you get to really get a feel for the stylistic ranges they can cover in a week, and the attention to detail is top notch. I LOVE hearing the "same" songs from DSO over the course of a few nights because each time it is TRULY different, not just different at a specific planned jam segment, and not just different because they are "doing it like the Dead in that era" necessarily, it's different each time because they are having so much fun playing together and sharing their knowledge, skill and joy with each other and all of us. The more I see, the more I understand the "Orchestra" part.... cause it's one thing to mentally grasp the concept, and something different to understand the environment DSO creates on a much deeper musical level in which that "Orchestra" part just becomes such a beautiful, amazing experience.

Anyways, Kevin's bass made the hairs on my arm stand up and the last notes of the show that he played knocked the cans and bottles off the speaker we were standing behind..... hahahaha it was AWESOME!

My favorite jam was during Fire.... sooo tasty there at the end as they started bringing it around.... it is really fun to watch the band's reactions when Jeff really gets out there!

Was great to hear Lisa on some of these songs we didn't get her for the other night... I can't really much cope with Scarlet without her becoming an angel for us!

I love when they do looks like rain, they just sing it so beautifully together, felt tears welling up deep inside me (didn't fall til Stella though, of course) and it was played just gorgeously!

I like screaming out in joy at DSO when Jeff steps up to the mic to sing "INSPIRATION!" in Terrapin. yeah. I giggled that he dropped the "statements just seem vain at last" line.... ha. haha.

Easy Wind? Perfect filler!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't know when I will get to see my favorite band again, but I really, really hope it isn't that far away. I'm gonna stare at my tour shirt and remember the joy I have felt all week since they came high stepping into town until I can fall asleep.

Love you all so much,

Mrs. D

Thank you Mrs. D.E. for all of your thorough reviews of these shows!!!!

Sure sounds like ya'll got hit HARD in Colorado this time around....would have loved to have been there, but reviews like yours surely help.

The elective set list sounded completely over the top from the Friday night and to get that particular '77 layed on top must have sent everyone to the moon...

I was reading your review last night from the Friday Boulder show and figured there would just HAVE to be a Terrapin coming to you guys for Saturday night...Been a while since that's emerged (3/11/11 in maryland, I believe)....I had thought for sure it was gonna show up in SF but glad they pulled that wagon out in the mountains of Colorado...especially in the encore slot! I can only imagine Jeff just CRANKING that one out after those sets!!!!

You Lucky Ducks..... :P

I'm sure you've heard this before...but...you're a good egg Mrs.Egg! So happy to see the youth riding the train and carrying on the torch of what was sweet and kind about the GD scene in the 70's...Might as well... and thanks again for your colorful reviews. We sure had a blast here in the bay area and from what I can tell the train lost NO steam as it rolled into CO...One of these days I'll time a trip back there as I lived in the Red Store in Gold Hill for a spell back in the day!....Thanks again to the band and all the parts that make the sum so incredible!

It's not often that a band can make me giddy and giggling with ecstatic joy, but DSO is doing it to me on a regular basis! I regularly depart from DSO concerts with a giant hilarious grin !

Yes indeedy, the Ft. Collins show was HOT as evident by Jeff's gesture during Fire on the Mountain that "The flame from your stage has now spread to the floor." I saw the Grateful Dead hundreds of times back in the day and DSO continues to blow me away with their amazing musicianship and their obvious love for the music. They want to play it with the passion and love as much as we want to hear it played well. DSO is an amazing band playing Grateful Dead music so wonderfully with high energy and love as it should be played.

There is no higher compliment I can give to DSO than, "WOW !!!! WHEN ARE THEY COMING BACK ??!! <hands grasping head>

I hope DSO feels loved and appreciated in Colorado, for they are. I wish they would play more dates here.
