Guest Lisacat
DSO back in Amsterdam 2012.... hoping there are a couple of other EU dates to go along with it. Not sure I'll make it again, but sure would love to. But maybe without the 4 bottles of wine from Paris this time. I'm still here.

I have only been to Germany as far as Europe goes, and I would love to see more! Have only heard the raves about Amsterdam--would love to experience this for myself before I am too old!! If I could swing it, I'd really like to pair it with a trip to Italy...been wanting to go to visit the town where my family is from (the town of Montafia!)- in the Asti province (there would be more good wine there ;-)) It sure is a hike though from California.... Not this summer but the next I'll be flying home from here and an Amsterdam visit is on the schedule for sure. JiTD in June of that year would suit me just fine

Dancin' Fool
Would love to be able to work this out!! Never been to Europe... But this is one helluva reason!! I agree!! Why not go when your favorite band is there?? This is really the only city in Europe (besides ALL of Italy) that I have been wishing to visit (never been either). I have been trying to break down the cost (hotel, passes, tour, reception, etc.), and it seems a bit pricey, given that the package deal does not include airfare. I suppose that you end up paying for the service of having the leg work done for you. Anyways, I've already forwarded the link to Liz (wife). This should be an interesting topic of discussion in the next few weeks...
Guest jazz-man
Okay, now I'm SERIOUSLY considering this. Lotsa my coworkers go to Amsterdam and they love it and recomend it. Lessee, airfare in $484, tix are $225, hotel or hostel....

Forum MVP chuckvegas Posted June 9, 2011 Forum MVP Report Share Posted June 9, 2011 Uh-Oh! Dutch to ban foreigners from pot shops http://www.cnn.com/2011/TRAVEL/06/07/amsterdam.pot.shops.ban/index.html Sadly, yes...after cracking down on the smart shops, this has been in the works as a way to limit certain aspects of tourism there. Guest jazz-man
I have faith in the good burghers of Amsterdam prevailing and holding off on passing this law. I read this week that around 25% of tourists to Amsterdam visit the coffeehouses, that's a big drop in revenue and money does have a way of talking. I hope to be in Amsterdam for the next JITD and they better not mess up the herb factor for me! Remember back in the day the GD were banned from some cities but eventually invited back because of the revenue they brought to that city when 'the cicus' came to town. I know this happened in Eugene, OR for one.
DIREWOLF
Regardless if they pass the law or not you will be able to get premium weed in Amsterdam from just about anyone. Standing near coffeeshops and offering to buy foreigners weed will become big business. The genie was let out of this bottle 40yrs ago and its not going back in. This law will backfire like alcohol prohibition in the US.
Guest jazz-man
True, but the comfort factor of being able to enter the establishment, make your buy and sit back and enjoy a leisurely smoke would be gone. And the guarantee of quality might not be there. I am hoping for cooler heads to prevail and to maintain the status quo this time.
Guest dekuil
This will never happen in Amsterdam, and probably not at all in Holland. Read this post from the Jam in the Dam board: http://bit.ly/kps2IA There are other posts as well, they have done their research over there.....
