drpinky
Really nice to see JK singing Row Jimmy in the Furthur rotation. Sugaree next? ... I heard the sugaree from the other night; who in their right mind is telling Bobby that he can sing that?? Talk about nails on a chalk board... They are doing the entire Abbey Road album in order, one song a night...pretty cool idea.
Forum MVP John A Posted March 9, 2011 Forum MVP Report Share Posted March 9, 2011 Sugaree next? ... He had Sugaree at Barton Hall last Winter. Bobby took it back!
Forum MVP found Posted March 9, 2011 Forum MVP Report Share Posted March 9, 2011 He had Sugaree at Barton Hall last Winter. Bobby took it back! And it was the best sugaree they ever played by far. every other sugaree has seriously paled in comparison. c'est la vie. i guess we'll just have to wait and see if furthur makes the right decision and starts to pass off some of these songs to JK. Row Jimmy is just a small step in the journey.
neutrino
Hopefully SOTM will also get passed to JK. Bobby completely ruined this song at one of the SF Civic shows I saw. Could have been the highlight of the evening, but was just a big disappointment.

Talk about nails on a chalk board... John sings Sugaree , Bobs sings Butcheree He had Sugaree at Barton Hall last Winter. Bobby took it back! I believe that was the first and only time JK has been allowed to sing Sugaree and I think it was given to him then due to the abundance of bob songs in that set (valentines day show) In The Midnight Hour> -Bob They Love each Other - JK Beat It On Down The Line- Bob Tennessee Jed, - Bob and JK Peggy-O (Philly-O) - Phil Looks Like Rain - Bob Sugaree - JK Good Lovin' - Bob
tbones
My friend today asked me how furthur was doing and I responded that if your into Bob Weir you will love it. If your not into Bobby dont go...He is a huge part of the sound of furthur, guitar and vocally. The prevailing opinion here is outspoken but for those who haven't made up there mind to not like Bobby..... I love Bobby doing the ballads. SOTM and Days between are some of my favorite furthur tunes. Since barton Hall has been mentioned I suggest listening to the SOTM. Its beautiful. As far as the Billgrahm Civic SOTM...I have no memory of it and I was there...so...maybe I will give it a listen.

Here's the show: http://www.archive.org/details/furthur2009-12-30.neumann-kmf4i.unknown.105233.flac16 I was really excited when I heard this song at the beginning. I was ready to hear JK nail the vocals the way I had heard him do it with DSO. Then Bobby started singing and it just took the air out of the balloon for me. I just felt JK would have done much more justice to this beautiful song with the vocals..

I really like a lot of what Bobby is doing in Furthur both vocally and with his guitar but his vocals on Sugaree are not so appealing to me but thats just me I also really like what Phil is contributing both vocally and with his bass he is so loud in the mix gives the shows such a full sound
Forum MVP Island Bro Posted March 10, 2011 Forum MVP Report Share Posted March 10, 2011 I, too, struggle to be really into it when Bobby is singing a Sugaree when JK is standing just 6 feet away, but I do enjoy tuning into the times when Bobby seems really "on" in his singing even if they are a little hard to find at times (in my opinion). For example, I thought he handled "Hard Rain's Gonna Fall" (Dylan) REALLY well at Phil's 70th B-day show last year....And I want to give him credit when he shines.... Forum MVP cm_hayden Posted March 10, 2011 Forum MVP Report Share Posted March 10, 2011 Love "maybe too strong a word" Bobby in Ratdog, there I expect for him to sing all night long. But in this and other living members' groups I have a tendency to hate anyone singing Jerry songs.
Starhead420
What about Bobby singing Ripple?? Back in Worc in November, Furthur played a rippin show, then the encore was Ripple!! I was stoked when I heard it start, then Bob started singing.... I was bummed out.. But hey, at least they let JK sing Wharf Rat and Loser as those are 2 of my very favorite ballads! And he sings a meaaan Nobody Girl too!!!!!!!! Hopefully they'll let him take over all the "Jerry" tunes soon enough.
