I always referred to that jam after GDTRFB (or in our case, alligator>drums) as the "and we bid you goodnight jam." it's funny you say that though, my brother asked me at the set break if i heard the GDTRFB jam. You are right though, it does have a mountain jam feel to it although i don't think the dead were playing it at that time in their career. It's really either or but I prefer Bid You Goodnight Jam. See the jam after Alligator>Drums in this show (6/6/70) http://www.archive.org/details/gd1970-06-06.sbd.miller.86951.sbeok.flac16 Or check out the end of the jam after Alligator>drums of the tape of the original show that was recreated this evening. http://www.archive.org/details/gd1969-04-21.sbd.miller.88465.sbeok.flac16 It is credited as And We Bid You Goodnight Jam in this particular show (1/3/70) http://www.archive.org/details/gd70-01-03.sbd.ret.19440.sbeok.shnf

Forum MVP Mango Posted March 6, 2011 Forum MVP Report Share Posted March 6, 2011 There was in fact a 'mountain jam', tho brief, and a 'bid you goodnight jam'. And I do believe that is how it is listed on setlists. Wooooo Very good show. Shitty venue(imo)...didn't stop us from having a rollicking good time. Wooooo Very good show. Shitty venue(imo)...didn't stop us from having a rollicking good time. Was not a huge fan of the venue either. Can't win em all tho. Most importantly is the fact that we all got to see DSO play. Thats what really counts There was in fact a 'mountain jam', tho brief, and a 'bid you goodnight jam'. Forum MVP found Posted March 7, 2011 Author Forum MVP Report Share Posted March 7, 2011 Setlist wise this show is one for the ages. Pigpen was in the house, gotta have my lovelight. Highlights were... everything. The second set although short was nothing short of perfect. Viola encore was mayhem and all the filler made for a nice close to the evening. Forum MVP Tom Banjo Posted March 7, 2011 Forum MVP Report Share Posted March 7, 2011 The venue for space sucked. Security was better than last time. Sound was good. Music exceptional. No complaints about the experience. Thanks dso.
Augustwest75
I've been listening to alot of late 60's dead lately as soon as I heard the "pigpen" hard to handle opener, I knew I was in for a treat. I thought it was cool that Rob E. made a comment about Jeff's laryngitis last year and that Jeff would be doing plenty of singing tonight. Jeff, and the rest of the band did not disappoint ... (do they ever??). This band is amazing. This show was unbelievable. Did they ever stop playing during the entire second set? Can't wait for grateful fest... p.s. I used to see the zen tricksters on long island many moons ago. Was very sad when Rob B. left. So good to see Rob and Jeff playing together again! Guest Ammagamalin Crew
I've been listening to this tape by GD a lot recently, esp enjoying Jerry's epic slide work during Hard To Handle (Jeff might have to give this original a listen to hear what I'm referring to) crazy slide work from note one, and the Foxy Lady jam on my GD tape sounds like they are waiting for someone to get up and running before they start the set?
