Forum MVP John A Posted February 5, 2011 Forum MVP Report Share Posted February 5, 2011 I'm enjoying these new discs, but it sure puts into perspective how incredible the Warlocks 24-track mix down sounds, as these have just left a few weeks of heavy rotation on my big system. 4/1/88 sound acceptable, if a bit shrill at times, while the Warlocks '89 sounds unbelievable. That first 4 songs from 4/1/88 are just pure bliss; 1/2 Step->Jack Straw->Lay Me Down (wow!); Thin Man (2nd and last version; listening to this it boggles the mind that Weir dumped it). The Knockin' from the 3/31 bonus material is fantastic, and the Watchtower is unique and bizarre, with Bobby halting things suddenly mid 1st verse with his signature, "Wait a minute!! Well, the business men they drink my wine..."

I was there making lame Nak shotgun tapes in the section, working a ton harder to get tapes I would soon consider garbage. Ah, the irony.
