Forum MVP Evangeline Posted February 6, 2011 Forum MVP Report Share Posted February 6, 2011 I like Victim. Always enjoyed the dark, discordant Bobby stuff.
Forum MVP Dstone5553 Posted February 6, 2011 Forum MVP Report Share Posted February 6, 2011 I've always preferred the Bobby/Ratdog Victim to the GD's. Stone and I have gone round n round about this a number of times. There are definitely some GD versions that are good but I just hear a different song when Bobby does it on his own. I don't remember doing that with you. I doubt I would last more than a round going round n round with you. But do me a favor just like I am asking Steve with my above link (I've done you guys favors). See...like many of the songs, Victim with Vince didn't really work. So those who never saw the GD with Brent have perfectly valid reasons not to like that song.

So, did you take your headphones out, turn it to 11 and listen to the Victim I suggested? If not, please do. And then let me know what you thought. I'm interested in your musical opinion, knowing that you'll go into it with an open mind. And I know you already knew there were good verions as you indicated above but I'm still interested. Forum MVP Tom Banjo Posted February 18, 2011 Forum MVP Report Share Posted February 18, 2011 Ya know, when the GD started doing these new songs, I didn't get it..when I got back into live dead with DSO, DSO helped me understand these songs better..still don't like easy answers and thank God I haven't heard DSO do it too often but Liberty and Victim were two I couldn't stand until now......Steve, listen to the victim from the Idaho show, summer of 2009...the guitar jam in the middle ( slipknotish ) of that is something to listen to over and over. Sarah is selling that CD at the Merch table..worth every penny! The Victim from Driggs is other wordly. The song was not my favorite when I first started listening, but I love it now. I would probably say it is one of the songs I feel DSO does better than the GD for the most part and although I love DSO, I do not feel that way about many songs. Just something about that Driggs Victim. The whole night was magical and that particular song along with several others stands out. I will check out the links thanks Dstone. Phil is into it. He is dropping bombs all over the place. During the chorus, at the end, he is out of control. I would say this is a perfect version. Very dark, and played well. Everyone sounds great on it. Thats why I love this board. I might not have listened to this version if it wasn't for your recommendation.

That middle night doesn't get hit on as often as the nights preceding and following but that second set is pretty hot shit, all by herself. I recall almost seizuring after that Looks. Forum MVP John A Posted February 25, 2011 Forum MVP Report Share Posted February 25, 2011 Ah, Cal Expo '90. Many. many a fond memory. Haven't heard that 2nd set middle show in some time. Phil bombs indeed. Not sure I ever heard that PA sound better! I have played the 1st set recently. Phil is out of control on the Stranger. Had Garcia kept pace that version would be an all time keeper. Consider set 2 in the cue, Mr. Stone...
