the question is where oh where on sat evening?...i checked lebanon, concord, hampton casino, and the tupelo in londonderry and white river....nothing

btw there are the stadard days inn type hotels @ Ashland I-93 exit 24, approx 5 miles south of venue and Plymouth exit 26 approx 1 mile north of venue.

there is a very nice hotel called the common man inn with a great bar/restaurant. the same company owns the venue

Well, Higher Ground would be a possibility for Saturday. Their May schedule is quite open at the moment. The Calvin in Northhampton is also open for that date. Even without Saturday, 2 weekend nights in May sounds great to me!

sat the 14th will be hampton beach casino.

my 2nd favorite east coast venue....

Hmmmm.....if I would venture a guess Penns Peak is your fave with the Hilton in a photo finish for 2nd with Hampton Beach. I put the Rams Head right up there in that mix also.

I think I'll play those numbers in the Superfecta tonight at Penn National. hahahahaha

haha thanks for the laugh my friend. Though, surprisingly it may seem, penns peak is not my favorite.. not enough room on the front sides for me.... Hilton is #1 right now- Hampton beach is wonderful for dancing but the crowd is gnarly there (lots of drunk wookies) bringing it to a close 2nd. Ramshead is only good in the upper balcony.

There are a couple other venues on the east coast that I loved even more, but the band only played once..... Lancaster comes to mind. Down south, Hilton Head was perfect.

Orange Peel takes an honorable mention.

and still love Higher Ground.... it can be super tight but who doesn't love being in Burlington?

i have been loving the lowell memorial auditorium the past few years...many bars nearby, lax security made up of volunteers, great acoustics, and a big ole balcony and apparently no smoke detectors whatsoever!! how about that dude riding the balcony railing?!?!

Yes, the LMA is a very cool venue. I just feel so relaxed there, and I agree that the staff is quite friendly. I actually saw several of the ushers dancing to the music, which is not something I normally witness at shows. That guy that rode the railing on the balcony at the 11/21/09 show seemed to be digging his 15 seconds of fame, and he briefly took attention away from the band, but it was a hoot to watch folks cheer him on. The sound in the place is top notch, and the band seems to really enjoy themselves there. I just wish DSO would play more shows in the Boston area, which has not seen many appearances by the band in recent years.

Lisacat, I really like Hampton also, but my biggest problem with it is the hit or miss sound. The Casino Ballroom really needs to be full to sound good and lately(unfortunately), that has not been the case. Yet, how can you not love walking the beach before the show and yes, a great dance floor. Overall, I'm partial to Higher Ground.

I can't make the show cause I'm bartending next door at the PHOP (Plymouth House of Pizza). If any of you feel like drinking a grateful dead after the show please stop by cause I'll have them on special. Hopefully I'll be able to hear the music through the walls. Cheers!
