pwpolk
Wow - thanks for posting. It is amazing the vids that are starting to come out of the closets after all these years. I can never give a definitive answer to the "what was my favorite show" question but out of the 200 plus between 78 and 95, when someone asks, this is the one that always jumps into my head first. Forum MVP Dstone5553 Posted January 14, 2011 Forum MVP Report Share Posted January 14, 2011 These vids of this awesome show just showed up on youtube....killer audio as well...an amazing show! The best advance in Video GD, for me, happened about 10 years ago or so when people started synching the sdbs to Vids, replacing some really bad audio, thereby making them instantly come to life. I usually cant' stand the official releases because of the camera moving off the main target all the time and the silly dancing bears and shots of the aud etc. Many of these vids, who are often times shot by someone who is a head and actually knows what they are doing (where to point the camera), are pretty insane. Let me know if you want this on DVD Jon...this is an alldecade show and you were at it...so if anyone should have it, you should! I think these things are made to be played on a decent screen with decent speakers.

A-freaking-men. And it's even more infuriating because the video are typically of such amazing quality. Gee, close up of Garcia belting poignant line from ballad, or psychedelic morphing steal your faces? Let me think... David, I have a DVD of 12/16/92, shot by a friend on an amazing Cannon camera (reference for the day) and synced with my FOB Schoeps tape that's pretty compelling. Garcia is so into Ship of Fools it's spellbinding. I'll have to dig that one up. There something fittingly organic and apropo about an AUD recording in tandem with a single camera shoot. Forum MVP John A Posted January 14, 2011 Forum MVP Report Share Posted January 14, 2011 Sad that the video cuts out after the 1st jam in Morning Dew - I wonder if the taper got busted (ironically it switches to "animated dancing bears" type imagery). However, the "young man mourn" verse and the 1st jam are electrifying. Garcia looks about as animated as he got in '84!
Forum MVP Dstone5553 Posted January 15, 2011 Forum MVP Report Share Posted January 15, 2011 Sad that the video cuts out after the 1st jam in Morning Dew - I wonder if the taper got busted (ironically it switches to "animated dancing bears" type imagery). I didn't know that. I'm sure it's the same on my dvd. These vids come out and some of the tracks get put on youtube at some point down the road. This one isn't great vid quality as I recall but some, like 10/18/89 Spectrum and 9/16/91 MSG are quite good. It's funny, I have a ton of these DVDs but I haven't seen most of them. I look to see if it's acceptable quality and then put them away. For some reason, I get a little sad after watching this stuff, whereas I don't when I listen to it. (I'm sure I've made this disclosure here before and I'm sure those who are seeing this for the second time are getting a little tired of my self-disclosures on this message board). But since I'm not in therapy I might as well push on...see...I always tell myself I'm going to watch them at some point but it seems like I never do. I'll bring some out for special occasions like my bachelor party to show everyone what Garcia looks like as he's imploding unto himself in front of the student body of Duke University on that US Blues from 4/12/78, as well as some other instances, but mostly they are pretty ignored. I guess I'm thinking the discs are there for me when I get over Garcia's passing, whenever that day arrives! Or at the very least, to show my kid what he looked like when he was onstage smiling about something that stuck him happy. (Same thing goes for all these books people have given me over the years--there are an awful lot of them.) But THAT cut in THAT Dew is an abomination. I don't remember reading that in the text file and I can't find the text file of that show on my computer right now (which drives me nuts). I'll still send the show to ya Jon (not John) cause it's a great one. And John, I don't think I have a dvd of that '92 show (some believe the best front-to-back post-Brent show). Send 'er my way---I'd love that in the collection and if it's your aud, I'll make a point of watching that Watchtower>Stella. Although that could also make a fun listening party--part deux--at your place with Pete!
