Tonight's West Coast New Year Eve show will be broadcast live on XM and Sirus radio...web connects too.

I wish I was at the East Coast show with DSO

Was there ever two Grate bands playing New Year's shows before with a show for each side of the nation ?...maybe only last year.

Peace, Love, Good Dance'n and Have a Happy New Year,

Doc

...and then the live feed went out from Sirius, and everyone not at Furthur or DSO is now sitting here wondering, "wtf", because now NYE truly is quite, um, lame?

the people that stayed home to listen instead of going out gotta be pretty upset, we are snowed in more or less so don't mind about that... but.... another NYE without Furthur or DSO is pretty lame in my lil book.....

thinking of all of you guys, happy new year!

It came back on during cassidy. Next tune was Mountain Song. I like this tune a lot. Phil sings it and it suits him. He sounds great on it. His bass lines on it are amazing too. Oh crap, technical difficulties again. OH well, good night.

Oh and Happy New Year!!!!!

With all our advanced technology I'm disapointed that the ATT feed from San Francisco to the XM/Sirus studio fell apart. We got pieces of a few songs and lots of appologies from Gary Lambert, the host of the radio show....at least there were a few interesting stories from Gary and the fans that called in to him. I think Gary was more upset than anyone else.

Peace and Love,

Doc

So... Last night was fun. For those of us who were unable to be at DSO, living in the Bay Area and getting to see Furthur is a solid backup plan for NYE. It was great to be able to have dinner with my wife and to be able to dance with her through the night. Also great to see David and Ali Stone.

I know we've discussed it but that venue just blows. Great location with the biggest capacity in the City, I get it... but the sound is rough. On the back floor by the soundboard is really the only decent sound. Lots of people spilling drinks everywhere makes the floor even stickier but why can you do.

As always, John was the highlight of the night. There was a great Caution>Rat, SOTOTW in the first that smoked all the way through. We also got the much needed Stella in the second which is why we show. I have personally grown a bit tired of the Furthur setlists. They should fire Jill and pay Eaton to write their sets everyday and three times in Sunday. Also, they have to can those backup singers asap. JK won't sing backup on multi songs because he doesnt want to muddy the vocal mix because he sing the same part as the backup singers (see Cumberland, Rider, etc.). Weak.

Overall, very thankful for having great music in my life. God bless the Grateful Dead and long live DSO. Thanks DSO for all that you do and happy new year to all the starheads.

An extra special shout out to Taper Ron. We love you brother and thank you for all that you have done and continue to do for this community. God speed for 2011.

The Furthur show seems like it would have been interesting from the pagentry and "circus-like atmosphere" standpoint. All the lights, balloons, confetti, Father Time, etc...all the trimmings of the classic Grateful Dead NYE experience.

But knowing what DSO and Furthur each bring to the table MUSICALLY, and after reviewing both setlists (yes I realize that setlists don't tell the whole story), I feel that I would rather have been at the Klein watching DSO.

I don't mean to detract from the Furthur experience, I'm sure it was a ball. And I'm thankful that we have both bands. But speaking as a picky Deadhead who has seen both bands live and with an open mind on multiple occasions, I know where I wish I was on the 31st, and it aint the BGCC.

Glad those that did go had fun, however.

Let there be songs to fill the air.

Guest crazy digits

I will say this, I really like Furthur and I am the pickiest ( spelling? )! But, I am SO unbelievably grateful I was at the Klein. The music was FANTASTIC!!!! Hard to put to words. DSO is the best GD band going right now and remains an intimate affair... Thanks guys/gal...you make it what it is...and my friends of course.

Only attended the 30th. Great show! My impression was a very jammy and mellow show for much of the evening. That doesn't mean there were no very high energy moments. I completely agree with you about Welcome to the Dance. I'd only heard this song the first time they played it in Oakland, and found it to be a great new addition to the repitoire. From what I can gather, they have only played it a one of two times since. This version blew my mind. JK and Jeff were going at each other in the jam in a way that has become the highlight of Furthur shows for me. These two have a real chemistry. When you see JK looking across the whole stage at Jeff, you better fasten your seatbelts!! Death Don't was also a highlight. I was rather surprised to hear Attics as the encore, after ending the second set with We Bid you Goodnight. That's what I mean by mellow! I was struck by how much JK has become so prominent in this band. It seems that Phil has finally taken off the lease completely and lets JK drive this train for much of the show.

For me, the second night was TONS better than the first.

Hearing Phil and John play Caution was really fucking insane. You knew it was on after that, especially when it melted into a Wharf Rat. I thought the fist two sets were really good and the last set had a few highlights, one being a fantastic Sugar with three gigantic Phil blasts in unison with some Weir windmills and the other being an insane Slipknot.

I had great seats above that hard to enjoy (for me) floor and I was just so fucking happy.

Counting down the old year after two great sets of music with my oh so beautiful wife by my side and a super-charged Suger Mags starting us on our way into 2011.

What could be better?

It's the way ever new year should start, whoever is playing.

I had a great new years once I found a great spot with Santa Cruz posse up above...best time I've had @ BGCC...a whole lotta joy in that room...one complaint...Weirs' guitar tone and volume were too loud in the mix...He's going for this very sharp edgy tone and for me was detracting/distracting at times...especially on Stella....but believe it or not I would actually go back to the venue and hang upstairs... :)

I was at Phil's 70th and you couldn't pay me money to be on the floor, not a chance....

Sound is one of my major complaints with Furthur. Seems like Bobby is always too high in the mix and it drowns out JK. They usually get it right by mid-first set. Just mail ordered for spring run at radio city
