Forum MVP found Posted December 16, 2010 Forum MVP Report Share Posted December 16, 2010 I must admit I laughed when I read the title of this thread...of course jerry had soul!..he had a soul with wings a mile long...in his vocals and his playing...this comes a time highlights both quite fantastically...and it also is an example of where IMO Donna sounds lovely... http://www.archive.org/details/gd77-05-09.sbd.connor.8304.sbeok.shnf I listened to this show today in my car and when Comes A Time came on, I thought of this thread... nothing but soul

sakada
to me, Jerry had this WAY, by the inflection of his voice, or that space BETWEEN the notes he played {not to mention the fluidity OF the notes he played}, to bring WHATEVER he was singing or playing to a different level....call it SOUL, i'd guess...it was as if the song played, or sang, HIM...like the Spirits of ALL those before him just came on thru....absolute amazing magic !!! Forum MVP found Posted December 19, 2010 Forum MVP Report Share Posted December 19, 2010 this whole show is filled with Jer emotion but I am particularly fond of his vocals on he was a friend of mine, which is probably one of if not the most underrated jerry songs of all time. http://www.archive.org/details/gd69-06-05.sbd.cotsman.15204.sbeok.shnf
Forum MVP FunkyBass13 Posted December 23, 2010 Forum MVP Report Share Posted December 23, 2010 Having only seen Jerry 3 times, I never experienced that "moment" with him... JK has brought be to tears a few times with Brokedown Palace, as well as Standing on the Moon... As previous members have stated, it's not the song, it the moment where the stars align, the angels sing, and your mind and body is in perfect tune with what the musician is playing... for your friend, he will have to experience it for himself, as its something one song can not just do... I have listened to Brokedown a million times, and most of the time, it makes me smile and sing along, but every once and a blue moon, it chokes me up so bad that if I'm driving, I have to pull over so I don't run off the road sobbing like a little girl... Herdy has it right. Its not necessarily the song, its the MOMENT. My moments actually came during an Estimated Prophet (I have a copy of the show and it is NOT that impressive of a Prophet). However, there was a moment where I looked at the stage and it seemed like it was just Jerry singing "California" and it was in that moment where I "Got It". The whole band was rocking and something about Jerry's persona just jumped right out, grabbed hold and I knew. Simple as that. Never felt the same since. Forum MVP chuckvegas Posted December 23, 2010 Forum MVP Report Share Posted December 23, 2010 ...grabbed hold and I knew. Simple as that. Never felt the same since. Funny how so many of us have spent shows, tours, years, decades chasing after that moment, tring to recapture it. It slips away, but we try. And the trying is the trip. And every second of the trip has been so f'ing worth it!!
Forum MVP cm_hayden Posted December 28, 2010 Forum MVP Report Share Posted December 28, 2010 If you're looking for one song, I would choose Stella Blue.
