What time did they start last night? How was the scene/venue?

I didn't attend last night's show due to schoolwork, but my friend was able to attend. He said the line to get tickets was lengthy, but if you had your ticket, you could walk right in. Everyone was searched but not in the groin area. What was it like inside? He said the party had already started by the time he got in, and clouds of smoke were everywhere. I didn't talk to him for too long, but he said the show was "fuckin' great," and he has seen DSO about 35-40 times now. This was his first Mattson show, and he did not leave disappointed! The band said that they would do something totally different for tonight, so I am thinking perhaps they will do an original setlist. I can't wait for tonight! :)

"from a city near you" tour....

Good solid fun last night. Balcony was not open, but they got rid of the huge barrier in front of the stage that was there last time, and what a difference that made. SOOOO much better this time around. My biggest problem with the Regency last time was that the barrier forced people to be so far from the band that much of the connection was lost between the band and crowd. Now that they took it away, I felt I could connect so much better. Dancing on the sides of the stage was great. Looking forward to tonight!

Thanks for the comments and good to see you Dr. Vapor! But to clarify, Jeff's new guitar is wired like Rosebud. His blue Fender Stratocaster with the white pick guard is wired like Tiger.

All I can say is I am bummed I cannot go again tonight. Last night, especially the second set, was as good, and in some ways better, than any other show I have seen. While the whole band was very tight and full of energy, Jeff's playing and his patience and intonations/softness with his delivery of certain parts of the vocals took me back to a time I have not experienced in decades. The crowd, at least those near the stage hung on every note and verse throughout Morning Dew, it was epic. Everyone lucky enough to go tonight is in for another dandy I'm sure. Thanks to band for a great night. Can't wait 'til next spring.

Enjoy!

This was my first show with Jeff, after having seen the band last time at the Regency with Stu. I had gone that first show rather expecting to be somewhat disappointed with the absence of JK. To my surprise and delight, I was blown away with what DSO could still bring with another man stepping into the big shoes left by JK.. I was sold and hoped that Stu would be made the permanent replacement. This was not to be, so I again went to the Regency last night with some of the same trepidation that Jeff would not do for me what Stu had done last time. Again, I was delighted to be wrong--Jeff was fantastic!!! That Terrepin/Dew in the second set was just about as good as anything I have experenced since I saw my first GD show in 1973. The band absolutely shredded those two songs--both of which are on my handfull of favorite songs from the whole GD catalog. Jeff seems to have a great chemistry with the band. The great interaction between Jeff and RE and RB on opposite sides was obvious. RB had a big smile on his face all evening.

Stu and Jeff are somewhat different in their approach, but both fantastic in their own way. I can now say I am delighted to have Jeff on board, but I would be very happy with Stu if he had gotten the gig. My initial impression is that Stu has a somewhat more "relaxed" approach and lets the music reach it's peak a bit more gradually. Perhaps more similar in style to Jerry's solo work. Jeff has a more rock and roll edge and perhaps a more psychedelic sound. I think Stu's playing is a bit closer to Jerry's, but of course, these guys are all their own musicians and are not trying to mimic anyone. It's rather interesting to compare the different styles and approaches of JK, Stu, and Jeff. I would not have an argument with anyone expressing an opinion on who they would rather have on board. They're all different, but great in their own individual way. It's all a matter of personal taste.

I was pleased to see what seemed to be a larger crowd than last time at the Regency. With the holiday weekend, I had kind of expected the attendence to be smaller, which would be rather unfortunate considering the quality of the music. Cool venue, but the security seems a bit excessive when entering. What are they worred about? Cool lounge downstairs with trippy 60's style furniture.. Half expected to see Austin Powers sitting there with some women in miniskirt.s Anyway, a really excellent evening, and I am very happy to see that DSO is still amazingly good. Can't make it back tonight, but I suspect those who attend will have another kick ass evening. Looking forward to seeing the setlist.

Can't wait for tonight, sounds smoking! When did they start last night? Tix say 9 but dso.com says 8....

Doors opened at 8. Show started promptly at 9.

Unless you absolutely MUST be right in the front row of people, there is no need to arrive early to get a good spot pretty close to the stage.
