Forum MVP August West Posted November 4, 2010 Forum MVP Report Share Posted November 4, 2010 DSO is coming back to Princeton...Saturday 30 April 2011. This was the venue for the bands first show with Jeff. After I heard him kill the EYES that night... I knew we were gonna be alright. Now that JM is firmly entrenched in the band.... we have all had the pleasure to revel in his extraordinary skill and vibe. His ability to connect with the audience is something that can't be taught....he has that gift. Not to mention his openness to doing songs and eras that JK wouldn't touch. I know most of you are gonna think I'm nuts... but we got the better of the trade.Like a steam locomotive............. Take a gander....
Forum MVP found Posted November 4, 2010 Forum MVP Report Share Posted November 4, 2010 I agree! The jams have truly reached a new level and we're witnessing some exceptionally mindblowing recreations as well as some very creative electives. JM is mroe than all good in my book. redeyedbert
I know most of you are gonna think I'm nuts... but we got the better of the trade. Peace. I don't think you are nuts. I love what DSO is doing now. Saturday in Covington was one of the best shows I have ever seen. Furthur with JK has its moments but I find I'm bored sometimes. I'm never bored at a DSO show. Never. Jeff brings emotion I don't remember with JK. I'm not going to bash JK because I loved him in DSO, and still like him with Furthur. He is great but he is not really allowed to fully shine in Furthur. I'm on a fresh high from the shows I just saw and I'm looking at the calander as we speak trying to figure out when I'm going to see DSO next. Forum MVP chuckvegas Posted November 5, 2010 Forum MVP Report Share Posted November 5, 2010 The McCarter date is on their website's calendar. Some folks here like to plan ahead. A few other dates of interest will maybe be popping up soon, also...
Forum MVP Mango Posted November 5, 2010 Forum MVP Report Share Posted November 5, 2010 I don't think you are crazy at all....however, after returning from the west coast I have observed that people are still mistaken. BrentFan
I am thankful for where this band has been....AND where it is going. But I've felt that, over the past few months, people feel either hurt, offended, betrayed or all of the above, by JK leaving the band. During JK's tenure in the driver's seat he has taken me to places with his voice, especially "voice from the god's" as a few of us have said, and guitar that I never knew were possible or even existed. Just because his path has taken him down other roads, doesn't discount his time with this extraordinary band we all love. That being said, I am also extremely thankful for JM. He has kept something that I deeply love, alive and thriving!!! Being such a JK enthusiast, as a number of you know I am, I was hesitant to hop on the JM bandwagon/fan club.....don't take this wrong, he has certainly proven he is an incredible musician and certainly does have one hell of a stage presence, but it was change and change takes a little getting used to.....After having seen a number of shows with JM at the helm, I have become a fan! He is a strong musician and the band is really playing strong with him! I hope people realize that I love this band, which includes both JM and JK. Every band member has played their role in the evolution of Dark Star Orchestra. Sorry for the rant but I have felt that there has been some negativity towards JK. So all that being said...... ........Thank you to everyone who has ever been involved with this band/family, you have done more for most of us than you could realize. Your heartfelt comments ring true for more people around here then you probably realize! I think it has become fashionable to promote the latest lineup of DSO & compare it to previous ones(ex. better now than ever/we got the better end of the deal/etc...) Keep in mind they are all competing for the same ticket sales,as not many folks can just go to every show( I hear we are in an economic downturn or something ) I definately agree we'd all be better off without the Phil's bitch remarks....Hope the rest of the dead community doesn't form opinions of this entire forum based on an individuals remarks! Jeff takes the band to a different, equally impressive place & we are blessed to see the music thrive on stage today as it has for decades! Peace, Rob

Peace, Rob As we have stated on many occasions, one man doesn't make a band. Change is always hard but embrace it we must! JK's departure was a scary time for all of us. But, with Jeff on board we have gone to places previously unknown to this band. Yes, we all feel we got the better end of the deal, but, you can never discount where we have been. It's ironic to say there's no looking back given that we recreate shows. As all of you know it's about being in the moment and that a set list is just that, a list. What happens during that time not one person could ever predict. I've been playing music for the better part of my life. The most important thing about being in a band besides the individual musicality is chemistry. Right now we have the best chemistry we've ever had!!!!! Onward and upward!!!! We love you all. Right now we have the best chemistry we've ever had!!!!! when the band has fun, we have fun...IMO from this side of the rail the chemistry parts tends to be a bit underrated. It happens to be something I pay very close attention to. I've certainly seen both ends of the spectrum with DSO...I can't remember one night in which I thought there was something off when I also thought it was an epic-level show. It just doesn't work that way... I am so happy that you guys have the connection on stage like you do.... it surely makes a difference! I can't wait to see all your smiles on stage soon!!!! Rob Barraco Rob, First off, thanks so much for adding your $0.02 on this topic, I am very appreciative that you and others are taking the time to chime in. I have to honestly say that I've not had the chance to see this incarnation of DSO yet and am eagerly awaiting December 11th in Denver. I have listened to the tapes on Archive and I have to say that DSO, musically, is on top of it's game. You're breaking ground yet again and I'm so glad to be along for the ride. It's been over a year, JK has moved on and so has DSO. Who knows what the future will hold, but for now, DSO is playing the best music out there and I for one am happy to call myself a STARHEAD. See ya soon, Your friendly neighborhood Lookyloo
