redeyedbert
Acoustic. Sing me back home. Beautiful. Cassidy-mystery train. Smokin. Sitting venue. Ugh. We had them at Cassidy but they eventually won. It actually says no dancing on the ticket. Lol Nice little theater. I wish I could stand but I'm chair dancing in the 3rd row. There are worst things. Guest Lisacat
It actually says no dancing on the ticket. Lol Oh how awful. And to me yes, there are worse things in life in general, but at a show there are few worse things....Being told not to dance at a show is equivalent to taking a kid to an ice cream parlor and not allowing him to have any (that was the cleanest analogy I could come up with....blue-balling the dancers also comes to mind) IMO, I'd rather not even be there. Forum MVP chuckvegas Posted October 27, 2010 Forum MVP Report Share Posted October 27, 2010 No sir, that would not work out well. Not at all. I'm having an extremely difficult time visualizing that situation, especially in light of some of the songs on the set list. And I have a rather vivid imagination. Guest Lisacat
\I actually thought of lisacat and chuckvegas with the no dancing. fortunately I doubt there will a no dancing rule at the belly up. I don't think it would go over well at all on the west coast. In fact, I think it would go over horribly.

Forum MVP Dstone5553 Posted October 27, 2010 Forum MVP Report Share Posted October 27, 2010 No standing/dancing=bad. I honestly think I would have tried to get someone in with my tic and go somewhere's else. I still haven't figured out how to sit down when powerful music is happening on a stage. I've had to do it for a Bridge show and a Lou Reed show and, to me, it feels like being held in a vat of cement.

I would love to hear what the rationalization by the venue was. GG Grass? I bet the Bird Song was epic. She Belongs to Me? That is soooo money! Sounds like a good performance that will forever be marred by no dancing - and it was even printed on the ticket! Wonders will never cease. redeyedbert
I honestly think I would have tried to get someone in with my tic and go somewhere's else. Really? I drove 4 and a half hours to see these guys. If I would have left I would have missed one of the happiest times I have had in a while. I may not have been able to dance but they couldn't wipe the smile away from my face. This was an amazing show with a fucking incredible setlist. It was bullshit we couldn't dance but you just have to make the best of it. It was a big chair I was in. I stayed on the edge of it, and I may not have been standing, but trust me, I was dancing. Chair dancing. If this ever happens again, to any of you, don't leave. Rock it out as much as you can. I know I can't convince some of you. Thats cool. At least this isn't a regular problem. I read a review recently that another venue tried the same thing but eventually we won. We tried to change their minds. It was a small venue and anytime a bunch of us got up they were all over us. I think it was funny it actually said no dancing on the ticket.
Forum MVP chuckvegas Posted October 27, 2010 Forum MVP Report Share Posted October 27, 2010 I think most of us would have tried to use friendly persuasion on the Powers That Be at the Footloose Theater. If the sweet light of reason didn't work, then absolutely we would have rocked the chairs hard. That set list is pure golden money! God in Heaven I wish I could have been there. What a night to remember...

If the sweet light of reason didn't work, then absolutely we would have rocked the chairs hard. Yep, I've been known to ask for the head of the venue. It worked like a charm in Tarrytown...I just told them that there were loyal DSO fans who left and would never come back to the theatre again. I just wish I would have said something earlier that night. Didn't work as well in Bethlehem but they still let us stand and dance. I never would have left....I'm sure it was bad enough to look out and have no one dancing but empty chairs would have been worse. I would have found a way to make the chair dance with me. The reason there was no dancing was due to structural weakness of the floor. Very old opera house. Sound was spectacular. Great energy. All the band and crew had a great time! This was an amazing show with a fucking incredible setlist. . Yeah...I realize that it's a problem I MYSELF have. Some of my friends have gotten pretty annoyed with me about it and I don't blame them. I've done chair dancing and, for me, it's just a huge drag, but I'm sure most everyone else could have done exactly that and had a wonderful time...and I'm glad you did Red. I would like to think I could sit and still have fun, but judging from past experience, my brain and body have a hard time with it. Feels like I'm being held down and I have a hard time enjoying myself. A freedom kind of thing (I guess). Or maybe I just got used to moving at too many GD shows. I'm thinking that hopefully when I'm in my 50s I'll be able to sit and still be able to enjoy the music. The fact that it was acoustic probably made it fine for 95% of the people in the house. Most people in this country and around the world sit for acoustic music anyway...and a good deal sit for electric, just not in the world of DSO! I agree- this would have been way more dissappointing at an electric show I think for more people. When DSO played the acoustic show in steamboat- another beautiful venue...the crowd just sort of naturally sorted themselves out. Many people sat, and the dancers stayed on the sides to allow the sitters to see (at least for the first 75% of the show)....even the venue staff was dancing on the sides. Wonderful vibe there... http://picasaweb.google.com/Greyhead.gh/SteamboatSpringsCO# People tend to be a bit more timid at acoustic shows....they'll eventually get up and dance, but it takes a bit more motivation before they come out of their shells. Usually just takes a freak or two to get it started

Forum MVP Dstone5553 Posted October 28, 2010 Forum MVP Report Share Posted October 28, 2010 Then I thought on my way out I would try my luck at the casino. $260 on the $5 craps table and I had a free trip and money to spare. I love stories like that. I have a similar one at a Vegas run where my gf and I slept in a suite at Caesars Palace (we were old school like that) instead of my Honda because of a hot streak at the Blackjack table after the last show--we had 15 bucks to start. Nice job Red!

I felt like i was strapped down with chair restraints. Was in first row center started dancing and GRUMPY put an end to our insubordinate activity... DANCING AT DSO SHOW!!!!! However, I look @ the positive and take away such great memories of songs they would not otherwise have played. Pigpen and Jerry are proud of how they made it happen. Peace 2 All.
