1. The Varsity is a gorgeous facility. Loved it.

2. The music was good. I enjoyed the band. Unfortunately I paid to hear a Dead show, not a DSO show. I realize that you always take a risk with this, but I was expecting a different result.

3. I am a HUGE Lazy Lightning > Supplication fan (thus my URL) and was dancing circles when they broke into it. It made a totally mediocre cover show into an excellent one. I'm still beaming from it.

what??? Thats weird..... every time I have gone see this band the ticket says "Dark Star Orchestra" I didn't realize they had ones that said "the Grateful Dead" I thought that ended 15 years ago....

in all seriousness though, what is a setlist besides a collection of songs? I really have a hard time believing that you would have enjoyed yourself THAT much more if they would have played a replica of a collection of songs that the Dead played at one point. Sounds like your mind took over and you let your expectations get the best of you.....

My advice- leave your expectations at the door, be present in every moment, and dance.....and you will never be dissappointed with this band.....

And yes, their lazy lightning is actually one of my favorites that they do...never liked it before...but it grew on me when I heard DSO play it.

Forgive me for posting the observations as a Dead fan who is accustomed to watching DSO perform Grateful Dead setlists for their shows in a forum of DSO fans. My bad guys. Carry on.

And Dark Star it was!!! The Varsity was my first original set and I was totally blown away but it......found the mystery of not knowing what the next song might be very recreational and I was inspired by every song!! Thanks Rob for an awesome show.......you totally made the show for me!!!

Don't let the backlash scare you. Some of us, myself included, love this band and will defend them until the end. I am sorry that the original set list didn't do it for you. I have never had that experience. In fact, I can't really recall a DSO show that I did not at the very least find to be a very enjoyable evening. Your not the only one that perfers recreations. I happen to prefer recreations myself, especially the 69 and early 70 shows. However, the oringials have been growing on me and I am sure if you can look back on the show and erase your expectations of an 87 or 77 or maybe a 74 show, you will recognize that DSO really delivered on the songs that they played and the music was played at a high level.

Whether you see an orinigial or show, like Rob said, its always Dark Star and no other band out there delivers the goods like they do. See you guys on the 28th. I am currently trying to speed up my departure to catch the 26 in MI, but like some people on this board say, "you can't make em all" and I am not sure that MI is in the cards.

I've been waiting to hear the answer to: how was the Days Between? Love that song. Rarely played. I think prior to this only once by DSO -- with JK. The Dead / Jerry version included on the So Many Roads box set, is very deep.

Bill Roehl,

ALL opinions are welcome and encouraged. Everyone's experience is individual to them and valid, despite what others may think.

Correct!

What I mean by Dark Star is

all the music is approached like the Dark Star jam

who ever knows what's gonna happen?!!!! RB

Which is why in the past 10 years since I first saw DSO, I have 290 shows under my belt.... When you might think you know what's gonna happen next, I am usually completely surprised and realize that, as a wise man says, "I don't know nothin'"
