I'm a bit disappointed with this edition of Road Trips. I don't recall an official release from any era being caked with more tape noise. Obviously they could have reduced more of it and made the call that it would cause the music to unduly suffer (and the sound is quite nice if you can listen through the hiss), but still. I'd never heard the Penn State show, and frankly it's not all that exciting, especially for that super charged Spring Tour. Of course there are moments, and don't get me wrong, if you handed me a bootleg of this show in this exact condition 20 years ago I'd be more than happy, but this is valuable vault remastering time here.

The Cornell disc frankly blows the Penn State away (there's still tape noise here, but less) and does its best to save the release. One is left to ponder why Barton Hall wasn't the featured element rather than the filler disc.

I heard there was speed problems with this release. Some people are asking Rhino to offer refunds?

I don't think this is the first Road Trips that has had that problem. Hiss is a problem...especially during the quiet sections of the ballads!

I haven't listened to these yet but just started listening to the 10/8 show and the sound is really good. The sound separation is incredible and the tone and clarity of each instrument (especially Phil) is quite something.
