random bertha.

As far as position in the setlist, being so close to the end of the second set it is very random BUT the fact that they made it Bertha> Good Lovin' makes it classic 77 material... and that's something I'll take any day of the week.

Well I don't know the stats, but Bertha>Good Lovin was used as a closer on a number of occasions. Of course, Bertha and Good Lovin got hitched in 1977 and stayed together well into the 80's when they separated, claiming irreconcilable differences :) Obviously it was most often used as a show opener. The most memorable for me was in Hartford CT in May of 77 when they married it up with a marathon Sugaree. Last time I was at Higher Ground DSO played a show from 79 which closed with B>GL. Most often, when placed at the back end of set 2, it followed Miracle. That particular set ended with Peter>Miracle>Bertha>Good Lovin. Honestly, i loved this as a closer and I disagree with the notion that great tunes like Bertha should not come toward the end. Why not bring it on to finish up?

Can't wait for Albany!

Agree with all of that...I love Mirace>Bertha>Good Lovin to end sets and they did do it tons in the time period that, as you say, they were together (78 to 80).

In fact, I liked Bertha>Good Lovin way better to close shows...those were some of the best Berthas ever done.

BTW...that pair did try to see if they still had the magic in 89 and 93, but I guess there was too much baggage to make it last.

I don't want to cast blame but I have heard Bertha can be a real bitch.

I totally agree about that 5/28/77 Bertha> Good Lovin'> Sugaree... love it, monstorous.

I can totally dig on a Bertha first set closer.
