If I'm not mistaken, it was the 3rd of a 3 night run and lemme tell ya, we 'bout had to build a damn ark to get back home. It rained more in those few days than some whole summers...... <_< We were partial to sleeping on a blanket on the ground in the parking lots of shows, but we'd of awakened downstream in Landover. I was driving a Honda Civic hatchback - me and my girlfriend and my buddy slept in that mo-fo. Went to these shows without tix and did not get in the first two nights, but got in Sun night and had a blast. All three shows were good as I recall, but this is the one I'd of chosen if I knew I was only going to get in one night. The second set was monster - and for me, it doesn't get much better than a Knockin' encore particularly when sung by Jer. (the perfect wind-down).

I got lucky and was stuffed two seats for each '87 show by the fine folks at GDTS right between Phil and Bobby - front row! Same two seats each night.

Trouble was that as I recall security was as nasty as imaginable. Both inside and out. As bad as any shows I can recall.

Really never had any issues with Security @ Cap Center.....Must of been on my best behavior or......In no shape to give anyone trouble

Brendan Byrne security was by far the worst I saw following the Dead !

Peace,

Hey Jordan!! Miss you loads you cute thing.

At any rate, you know, not sure what this means, but I'm not sure if I was at this show or not!!rofl.gif

Seriously.

And I can't find my damm book with my zillion (slight exaggeration) Dead ticket stubs and handwritten setlists in it right this second, as the damm dog, LUCY (as in I LOVE, IN THE SKY, and LOOSE), just ate a pound of bacon off of the kitchen counter. So much for the BLT's for dinner. They're not quite as tasty without the B (and all of you vegies, I love you, but the rest of you, well, you KNOW what I mean).

Anyway, it was always my understanding back in the day that Jerry was a big fan of Los Lobos. Perhaps someome can confirm this, but that was the word. And I have this feeling that I heard it, and that is was all very good....not cheesy or fuuuuuuuuuuuuck yaaa.......enjoyable and happy ......possible I have this on an old Maxell UDXLII.......maybe......

At any rate, I'll be at the Rams Head, and any Cap Center show will be a treat as I'm PRETTY SURE I saw more shows there (I think) than anywhere else since !!! Bring it on!!

My vague recollection was that it was more like........................ "OK,....OK,... different and unexpected, but OK,...." The crowd in general was pretty jacked - as you know anything NEW getting busted out would get a rise out of the crowd.

It was a crazy surprise... but Los Lobos who had been playing the song and was all over the radio... was hot at the time and also very good friends of the Band and Garcia so it was understandable....Jerry has a pretty good spanish accent I have to say....Dr.V

I'll be there. Hoping for the 76 and the 79 morning dew.

That 76 is FANTASTIC show. DP vol. 20... Cosmic Charlie AND St. Stephen and you're done for.

Either way, I'll be happy with whatever Capital Centre shows they play but those are my favorites.

Los Lobos is at the Granada in Dallas 12/1!

I can't wait to see em for the first time...they did a nice cover of Bertha a few years back and just recently put their stamp on a West LA Fadeaway that sounds nice. :icon14: :icon14:

La Bama was hot on it's way to becoming the number one song in the country at that time (I think the movie did okay too). As everyone knows, Los Lobos was covering the Richie Valens' original version which was one of the first rock hits on radio (Peggy Sue is my favorite for the fairly early ones).

This was one of those songs that were hits on the radio that the GD tackled (Werewolves and Hey Jude being the most famous but Weir teased Saturday Night Fever before Uncle at that cataclysmic Illinois show--4/24/78). Kira is right I think, it must have been because Garcia liked Los Lobos as a band (I remember them being one of the few openers he came out to watch) and my guess is he liked Valens and the song too.

Still looking for a board of that Providence version--9/7/87.

Great to see some of the young'ins come out for this thread! Hope you two and Mason come out to SF and soon.

Listen to Space for Garcia's shouting "Morning Dew! Morning Dew!" as if he just came up with the most brilliant idea of his life.

In hindsight, it was a pretty damn good one.

That version stands by itself, warts (and reggae) and all.

Used to like Landover, mellow vibe, last show was in 94 fall tour...

Perhaps a little hasty, but I maybe a permant fixture on the east coast before these shows...

Was at both shows and both were great. But....as a HUGE JGB fan, the Rubin bust out was especially memorable mostly because the majority of heads had no clue what tune it was (or couldn't believe they were playing it!) for a lil' while. Himself, would not be disappointed if DSO played the 91 Rubin bust out show as one of the two Cap Center weekend shows!! Will be happy either way, whatever they play.....all the time!!!
