Forum MVP found Posted August 19, 2010 Forum MVP Report Share Posted August 19, 2010 Sounds like a great time with all that dancing space! I definitely think Donna's voice is better now than it was back in the 70's. Mattson is just a beast... love seeing him every chance I get. I want to go see them this Saturday at Mexicali but I unfortunately have work until 10 pm and don't think I can make it which is a shame. Hopefully some kind folks from here go and let me know what I missed out on.

Guest Lisacat
Went to see them tonight in New Hope at the brewery....was nice to see a good crowd there and the band looked like they were having a blast. Always sweet to see Donna's smiling face too. There was definitely a psychedelic edge to the show....think a little of it was in the crowd too ;-). Mattson laid down a super jam in eyes....sounded like another song but I couldn't put my finger on it. The JGB tunes were a treat to hear...especially mission in the rain. I left a little early - wiped out, but stuck it out until they went into GDTRFB (after I think was scarlet >don't let go>scarlet) which I'm sure was close to the end. Great times dancing one last time on the east coast til who knows when. But here is my rant: Of course we're all humans and have bodily functions, whatever. BUT if you are having issues with passing gas, take it to the bathroom or go outside. It is NOT okay to hang around a group of people and pass gas ALL night. Its disgusting and rude. This is definitely not the first time this has happened around me at a show and I'm sure it won't be the last, but really people, your mothers taught you better. And furthermore, if you are having such issues its an indication that something is WRONG with you. Change your diet- cut the fried food, the dairy (cow milk was meant for baby cows not humans anyway), whatever it is that is making you do that- or take something for it! THEN come to the dance floor. But please have some manners and don't bring it with you. I'd rather smell body odor. It smelled like a freakin toilet in there at one point. Same thing goes for airplanes. I can't tell you how many times I've had to deal with THAT while flying. Just my 2 cents.

Forum MVP Dstone5553 Posted August 22, 2010 Forum MVP Report Share Posted August 22, 2010 Of course we're all humans and have bodily functions, whatever. BUT if you are having issues with passing gas, take it to the bathroom or go outside. It is NOT okay to hang around a group of people and pass gas ALL night. Its disgusting and rude. This is definitely not the first time this has happened around me at a show and I'm sure it won't be the last, Of all the shows I've been to this has happened to be only three times. Once when I was 13---I was a rookie struggling in the minors and couldn't muster the Chutzpah to do anything. On the two future occurrences, however, I employed the following tactic...I usually pretty much could guess who it was but I still talked to the group of people around me in a nice, comical but loud enough voice to be heard. "Okay, folks...whoever it is farting throughout this whole show, I'm fairly certain that you don't mind smelling your own farts but I can promise you that the rest of us do...so can you be kind enough to do us the favor of cutting (no pun) it out! I know speaking for myself, my friends and the people around you, it would be very much appreciated. Thanks very much." I've also experienced this on the airplane and I take a similar but slightly more subtle approach. I usually am flying with someone and I just talk with them in a much softer voice, but one the people immediately around us can hear and it goes something like this...."man, can you believe people are so lame that they will just continuously fart in a public place like an airplane? What are they thinking--that no one is going to know it's them and so that somehow makes it okay? I mean, one time no big deal and twice, no big deal cause maybe you are having some problems and we've all been there...but this has happened 6 times to my count. Is this person stupid or just an inconsiderate asshole?" And my flying companion will understand this routine and calmly talk to me about how lame the person in question is...as if we're talking about the Jet's chance to win the whole thing this year---just a normal conversation on a plane. This has only happened to me twice while in the air and one of the times I was flying alone. I was on good enough terms with my seat companion that I could explain to her my approach and she was more than game to give it a try! That aeronautic tactic and show tactic have proved effective every time--and I don't believe in coincidences! Hope this helps Lisa!

You are most definitely one of the most game tested, major league veterans in this place! Ha. I wouldn't go that far....lots of folks around here with much more under their belts (considering I wasn't around for GD tour) but no, not my first time either ;-) Seems I'll be joining the DSO JV league now though since I'll be moving and won't be able to make it to as much as I do on the east coast....however I'll still be dancing! Already overwhelmed with the amount of music I have to choose from in the next couple months.

R u kidding? You're one of the biggest fans living on this planet! And you are just changing leagues...there will be no JV for you. Lots of people think the West coast is a better, more professional league anyway--no one had to tell them to shut up during the quiet part of a Dew, for example. I always loved both leagues though, (and the midwest too!) and enjoyed being part of each depending on the tour, even though now I am squarely with the West Coast. I've always felt there was a time and place for noise...even during the appropriate parts of a Dew.

Guest Lisacat
I always loved both leagues though, (and the midwest too!) and enjoyed being part of each depending on the tour, even though now I am squarely with the West Coast. it sure is a different energy in each part of the country. I remember my first west coast dso show (or any show actually) in Oct 07 at the Fillmore- the last time Bob played with them. I was more of a "bopper" at that time- not a dancer. And I think I ate a tiny bit of a chocolate that night and I didn't know what to do with myself. I was sooo overwhelmed with the energy - and not just the energy but the TYPE of energy the west coast had. I was on the rail for the first set and then the second set I was so lost. Scared of the left side and the spinners, didn't like the balcony, and the front was too crowded. The energy on the west coast is so much more like a sea- you find yourself halfway across the room from where you started and you don't even realize it, whereas on the east coast, the energy is much more vertical. People stay in their spots and move much more up and down rather than the swirly wave-like psychedelic energy of the west coast. I suppose there are some folks who really can't deal with that type of energy- however I live off of it. My second night on that run at the Fillmore I planted myself in front of the left speaker- having NOOO clue that the front left is the spinner zone. Just about as the show was starting, this woman came through and it clearly wasn't her first time and she introduced herself, took her shoes off, said hi to the security guard at the front, and established her dancing space. She seemed to take a liking to me even though I wasn't that much of a dancer at that time but we started talking in between songs and she told me the stories of her nights at those shows DSO was playing (warlocks 89) and it just clicked that night for me. I started dancing more and just fell in love with the west coast. And I remember her saying to me, so when are you moving out here? To this day, she and I are good friends and will be living not too far apart. And another funny part of that, there was another girl that was dancing there with this long thick sweaty brown hair that kept sticking to my back and face and I got sooo bugged out by it. Turns out her and I are really good friends now too. And now I just laugh about that because I'm probably the guiltiest one for swinging my hair around and hitting people.
