Gus B
My advice is the only go to shows where there is a Four Season or Ritz Carlton, save up and pamper yourself and drink good beer I like Duvel and awesome Tequila, I recently discoverd Jose Cuervo Reserva de la Familia ...thats some smooth shit.....just my two cents...Dr. V Shocker! BTW luv the shameless plug!

Forum MVP 2muchfun Posted August 18, 2010 Forum MVP Report Share Posted August 18, 2010 I have been blessed with a math orientated brain (that I have yet to harm..try as I might) that allowed me to get a sweet job (going on 32 years now) so as to pretty much enjoy it all. My idea of festival going now..is Holiday Inn after the fireworks and before the next set. That being said I almost buy extra tickets and miracle those less fortunate and buy stuff that perhaps I do not really need from really sweet like minded people. 4evergr8ful
Love all the differences in the way we do things! It's all about your comfort level and priorities. If you can eat whatever is around and sleep wherever you can, you can do tons of shows, even whole tours. I am a touch more spoiled, so I work a normal job during the week and save every penny for shows on mostly weekends, some times a week or 2 depending what's going on. 4 to a room? We do 6! And usually in a Super 8 or Red Roof. Sleeping arrangements don't matter that much to us so that's where we cut corners. However, I do enjoy a good, local meal when traveling. Like others have said, the people around you make a difference too. We are lucky to have a group who all bring a little something to the group as whole. Brian NJ
I just turned 51 and you never know when your number is called so I try to live life to the fullest. My unemployment runs out in Oct, my car transmission is starting to make noise, I have no savings or credit/debit cards, IRS wants any money I get, I figure the best I can do in this situation is book a flight for the Kentucky and Ashville shows. Since my first Dead show at Roosevelt stadium years ago I relised the best way to stay in the game is to have a certain level of irresponsibilty. Pugdog
I'd fix the transmission first...then DRIVE to the shows
Forum MVP Supplicated Velvet Thunder Posted August 28, 2010 Forum MVP Report Share Posted August 28, 2010 I'm 14 miles from Mexacali (10/2 I believe) in a one bedroom, with a recliner, 2 seat + 3 seat couches in the L/R. You and Mr. Egg are welcome Monday night. I'll leave for work 6 hrs or so after you get here, giving you all Tuesday to use the restroom + kitchen before heading to PA. Just let me know. Whoops - make that Sept 20. thank you!!!!!!! We are not quite sure if we will be at that show, but it will probably happen!!! We've got our air mattress, so it sounds like a plan!!! Will def be in touch as the date draws near!!! After all, we didn't think we'd do the tour after Vibes, but ended up on tour bc that's where we are supposed to be

Guest jazz-man
Way back in '95 I accept a job at a hospital in Saudi Arabia, partly, because they gave me 50 days of vacation a year. Between that and the tax free income I figured I could easily do 2 weeks of tour with tickets and hotels and a car rental each year. Then came the phone call before I left...Now I am back here but fighting for my (financial) life instead of here for tour money. Life is funny sometimes. I hope DSO comes to Portland in April when I am home next! These days I go to out-of-town shows with a friend to share gas and hotel bills. And Subway makes a good Veggie Delight sammy for $5. And I party a bit outside of the venue to avoid the pricey bars inside.
