Forum MVP FunkyBass13 Posted August 2, 2010 Forum MVP Report Share Posted August 2, 2010 In honor of the start of Jerry Celebration Week, I would like to pose this question: Hypothetically speaking (of course), let's say you end up going to Hell. Satan is being quite generous and is willing to let you listen to ONE Garcia song for your eternity in the abyss. What is your one song going to be???? I was having a hard time deciding what mine would be until I added in the "you're stuck in Hell" part and then it hit me: Sitting Here In Limbo. Not only is it one of my absolute favorite songs but I figured that evenutally, the rest of the population would be begging Satan to ship me off to Heaven as they would be tired of seeing me smile my day away while listening to Limbo over, and over, and over, and over. So many possibilites to choose from but I just figured that selection could serve double duty: make me very happy AND drive everyone else bonkers Happy Birthday Jerry!!!!!!! Forum MVP VincentPuleo Posted August 2, 2010 Forum MVP Report Share Posted August 2, 2010 It is indeed a nine day celebration... if the devil gave me the chance to pick out one song during my stay in hell it would have to be Wharf Rat...
Octal
Is Friend of the Devil (the slow version) too corny of a choice?
Forum MVP chuckvegas Posted August 2, 2010 Forum MVP Report Share Posted August 2, 2010 Gotta go with Limbo. What better place to search your soul?

Forum MVP gr8fulpair Posted August 2, 2010 Forum MVP Report Share Posted August 2, 2010 While China Doll would be very appropriate for the setting and mood (and I friggin love that song) it simply is not long enough - another very strong contender but with the same problem of being too short and not enough jams is Hey Little One (this one would make me too happy to hang around in Hell). If I've only got one song, I need something with extended jams that I can dissect a thousand different ways... really a toss up for me between Stella and Dew..... but I'm going with Stella... a good 10+ minute version.. Guest jazz-man
Terrapin Station, the WHOLE song. Just cuz it's a great song and can be kinda long, the jams can be as good as the song. Or to piss off Satan "The Maker". Or "Waiting For A Miracle".
Forum MVP chuckvegas Posted August 2, 2010 Forum MVP Report Share Posted August 2, 2010 I don't think His Satanic Majesty would request "Sisters and Brothers," either...

Forum MVP arm Posted August 3, 2010 Forum MVP Report Share Posted August 3, 2010 Funny. Only in this corner of the world would most folks pick non-Jerry songs when asked which Jerry song they want to listen to forever! It says something, but I'm not sure what. Forum MVP FunkyBass13 Posted August 5, 2010 Author Forum MVP Report Share Posted August 5, 2010 I had noticed the same thing. I believe it says that we have grate taste and are amazingly perceptive. I could be wrong. I think it also says a lot about what an amazing job Jerry did on other people's songs. There are quite a few tunes that I would choose to never hear the original if the Jerry version is around.
Guest jazz-man
Jeez I love The Maker! Almost all of the versions on youtube are great whether it's Jer, Daniel Lanlois (the writer), Emmylou Willy Nelson, etc. Great tune, great riff.
