Forum MVP Michael Doc Watson Posted June 17, 2010 Author Forum MVP Report Share Posted June 17, 2010 In 1914 I started to roam Went out into the West with nothing of my own I went drifting along with the tide And landed on the Great Divide Railroading on the Great Divide Nothing around me but the Rockies and sky It's there you'll find me as the years roll by Railroading on the Great Divide Ask any old timer in old Cheyenne Wyoming railroading's the best in the land A long steel rail and a short cross tie Laid across the Great Divide Dancing in the sand to the sounds of DSO Nothing around me but my friends and the sky It's there you'll find me as the years roll by Dancing in the sand liste'n to DSO "The Dead played this once, on 11 June 1969 at a concert billed as Bobby Ace and the Cards from the Bottom of the Deck. The song was originally performed by the Carter Family..." This one seems to fit my blue mood this morning. Peace, and Love, Doc It's just 14 more days until sound check party time. dancin on a pin
On the twelve day of Grateful Fest Sue sent me her itinerary. So how excited am I. Well Sue and I were best friends in high school and for years afterwards. Circumstances separated us for too long. We began talking a bit back in 95, but have been in more regular communication these last couple of years. We haven't seen each other in 25 years. Sue is flying out to Newark from Eugene, landing at 7am. I am picking her up and heading out to Garettsville in time for the sound check. Another memorablia time at Nelson's Ledge is expected for all. I can't wait to see everyone but am especially excited to reunite with Sue. Peace everyone
Forum MVP Michael Doc Watson Posted June 19, 2010 Author Forum MVP Report Share Posted June 19, 2010 "Twelve crimson stars Shining bright overhead They shall make music To wake the dead." "Resurrection Rag" Robert Hunter, played by Merl Saunders with Phil Lesh and Friends on 29 May 1999 "In ruby light of crescent moon Calm in the aftermath of doom Wines twine round The slice of a knife Flowers, seeds Traces of life A wind from the west Plays flute on the holes Of ash blue craters Melody rolls The voice of the song So strangely like you When the moon was white And the sky was still blue Resurrection Rag The voice of the moon I've heard it before I remember the tune"

Forum MVP Michael Doc Watson Posted June 22, 2010 Author Forum MVP Report Share Posted June 22, 2010 Now we are at the 10 ..9..8..and so forth that became so much a cliche during the early space race. For some reason it brings back memories of the time that the Soviates had the first and only man made satalite. Our efforts exploded three of four times when the Navy's rocket, the Vanguard, tried to leave the pad at Cape Canavera...all replayed on TV news shows. Then the assignment was turned over to the Army team, Von Baun and others you have not heard of. We didn't see our Fathers until late at night when they returned home from late work at Redstone. Then one Friday night my Father came home and said everyone get into the car because the whole town is having a party and were celibrating around the square....The USA had had made our first sucessful step into space with a satalite. He also played it with the Hart Valley Drifters in November 1962, and with the Wildwood Boys at the Monterey Folk Festival in 1963. Recorded by Garcia and Grisman some 30 years later, though never played live." JUST NINE MORE DAYS

Say, it might have been a fiddle Or it could have been the wind But there seems to be a beat now I can feel it in my feet now Listen here it comes again There's a band out on the highway They're high-stepping into town It's a rainbow full of sound It's fireworks, calliopes and clowns Everybody's dancing Come on children, come on children Come on clap your hands
