Play'n in the Band !

Peace and Love,

Doc

Wake up to find out that you are the eyes of the world

But the heart has its beaches, its homeland and thoughts of its own

Wake now discover that you are the song that the morning brings

But the heart has its seasons, its evenings and songs of its own

Let the sun shine thru your day,

Doc

28 days and counting down

Daddy made whiskey and he made it well

Cost two dollars and it burned like hell

I cut hickory just to fire the still

Drink down a bottle and you're ready to kill

Brown-eyed women and red grenadine

The bottle was dusty but the liquor was clean

Sound of the thunder with the rain pouring down

And it looks like the old man's getting on

Baseball is played with three teams on the field. Two teams of nine playesa and another team of umpires. The results are tabulated in the box score showing runs, hits and errors. But the errors of only two of the teams are counted on the scoresheet. Maybe Armando Galarraga* will have his name on the list of other pitchers that have pitched a perfect game ( only about twenty or so in all of major league baseball history) and there will be an asterist there explaing that the umpire, Jim Joyce, made an error.

"Take me out to the ball game,

Buy me some peanuts and Cracker Jack,

I don't care if we never get back"

For its 27 days until Grateful Fest.

Peace, and Love, for our National Sport,

Doc

"Julie catch a rabbit by his hair

Come back step, like to walk on air

Get back home where you belong

And don't you run off no more"

A few months ago I was lying on the surgery table feeling good, all filled up with what the anaesthesiologist said they call the "still conscious but just don't care drug." I was chatting with the eye surgeon who was about to replace a cornea. I knew that he had studied in San Francisco so I mentioned that I had been there a couple weeks earlier to see DSO for three nights at the Fillmore. He perked up and said to the nurses, "We can get the Grateful Dead channel on the radio, can't we" They rushed off and a moment latter Jerry was singing "Row Jimmy" as background music in the operating room.

"Here's a half a dollar if you dare

Double twist when you hit the air

Look at Julie down below

The levee doing the dopaso.

And I say row, Jimmy, row

Gonna get there, I don't know

Seems a common way to go

Get down and row, row, row, row, row"

See you'll at the Ledges in 26 days.

Peace, Love, and Music for All,

Doc

Rob said,

".... Ledges early for the Thursday soundcheck all I will say is it we will be doing something DSO has never done before! "

Just 24 more days !

"Train I ride, fifteen coaches long

Train I ride, fifteen coaches long

Woman I love, Lord she's on that train and gone

Train, train, running down the track

Train, train, running down the track

Took my baby, Lord you know it ain't coming back"

Peace, Love and Let the Tomatoes Grow,

Mama said, "Don't go near the Ledges"

"Don't be hanging round that Herdy crew"

Come the night time I'd always be there

Dancing in the sand till the sweet Delta dawn.

Take me back to another festival

To a time so long ago

With the sweet sounds of Dark Star Orchestra

Lakeside beach was white as snow

DSO was the group we danced to

Lived and played by the music's sound

Looking back I still remember

I was proud to be their friend

Born a band in the town of Chicago

Traded for a bass guitar

Lord, they never sang in anger

Though their load was hard to bear

Peace, Love, and wait another 23 Days

As we rode out to the Grateful Fest

As we rode out to the Ledges

Our drummer fell in love with a lady like a dove

And he called her by name pretty Peggy-O

Will you dance me, pretty Peggy-O

Will you dance me, pretty Peggy-O

If you will dance me, I will lite your campfire for free

And please all the ladies in the area-O

I would dance you, sweet Robert-O

I would dance you, sweet Kevin-O

I would dance you, but your songs are too few

And I fear my mama would be jealous -O

What would your mama think, pretty Peggy-O

What would your mama think, pretty Peggy-O

What would your mama think if she heard my songs go clink

And saw me playing on the keys of my pian-O

If ever I return, pretty Peggy-O

If ever I return, pretty Peggy-O

If ever I return, all your weed I will burn

And stone all the ladies in the area-O

Come skipping down the path, pretty Peggy-O

Come prancing over the sand, pretty Peggy-O

Come swimming in the lake, combing back your yellow hair

And bid a last farewell to young Johnny-O

Old Pigpen he is dead, pretty Peggy-O

Captain Jerry he is dead, pretty Peggy-O

Smiling Scott he is dead, and he died for a maid

So he's buried in the Illinois country-O

As we rode out to the Ledges

As we rode out to the Festival

Our fans all fell in love with many a lady just like doves

And they called her by name pretty Peggy-O

For good reasons, i'll give you 20.

L.S.P., Thanks for pick'n up the count in my absence.

Twenty to life or another shot.

Twenty parts reason, twenty parts rhyme

Twenty degrees of solitude, twenty degrees in all.

Seems that the DA knew my dad, or I might have got twenty years

With twenty pounds of headlines stapled to his chest

.

If it ain't twenty others, hell, it might as well be me.

Twenty in the left hand, twenty in the right.

Back in Sioux City twenty years ago

With a twenty-carat diamond that was carved into a rose.

Why don't you lend me twenty for a drink instead

Peace, Love and another twenty days,

Doc

I lit out from Reno, I was trailed by twenty hounds

Didn't get to sleep that night till the morning came around

Set out running but I take my time

A friend of the devil is a friend of mine

If I get home before daylight I just might get some sleep

Tonight

I ran into the devil babe, he loaned me twenty bills

I spent the night in Utah in a cave up in the hills

Set out running but I take my time

A friend of the devil is a friend of mine

If I get home before daylight I just might get some sleep

Tonight

I ran down to the levee but the devil caught me there

He took my twenty dollar bill and vanished in the air

Set out running but I take my time

A friend of the devil is a friend of mine

If I get home before daylight I just might get some sleep

Tonight

Got two reasons why I cry away each lonely night

The first one's named sweet Anne Marie and she's my heart's delight

Second one is prison baby, sheriff's on my trail (note c)

And if he catches up with me I'll spend my life in jail

Got a wife in Chino babe, and one in Cherokee

First one says she's got my child but it don't look like me

Set out running but I take my time

A friend of the devil is a friend of mine

If I get home before daylight I just might get some sleep

Tonight

You're the kind of person you meet at certain dismal dull affairs

Center of a crowd, talking much too loud, running up and down the stairs

Well, it seems to me that you have seen too much in too few years

And though you've tried you just can't hide, your eyes are edged with tears

You better stop, look around

Here it comes, here it comes, here it comes, here it comes

Here comes your 19th nervous breakdown

When you were a child, you were treated kind but you were never brought up right

You were always spoiled with a thousand toys but still you cried all night

Your mother who neglected you owes a million dollars tax

And your father's still perfecting ways of making sealing wax

You better stop, look around

Here it comes, here it comes, here it comes, here it comes

Here comes your 19th nervous breakdown

Oh, who's to blame, that girl's just insane

Well nothing I do don't seem to work, it only seems to make matters worse

Oh please

You were still in school when you had that fool who really messed your mind

And after that you turned your back on treating people kind

On our first trip I tried so hard to rearrange your mind

But after while I realized you were disarranging mine

You better stop, look around

Here it comes, here it comes, here it comes, here it comes

Here comes your 19th nervous breakdown

This old engine makes it on time

Leaves Central Station 'bout a quarter to nine

Hits River Junction at seventeen to

At a quarter to ten you know it's travelling again

Only seventeen days remain to wait.

Peace, Love, Happyness,

Let the Sand sift between your toes, the Sun shine on your head, and the music fill your ears,

Doc
