Advisory Board Herdygerdy Posted May 18, 2010 Advisory Board Report Share Posted May 18, 2010 So to conclude....Your suggesting that the truth is that Phil Lesh and Bob Weir decided that DSO was absorbing too many potential profits from them and decided to destroy DSO by recruiting the founding member of DSO to play with them. So JK is only a pawn used to destroy his very own brain child? So 13 years ago JK liked to play Grateful Dead music....He starts a band....Its a great success.....It evolves and thrives for 12 years....Then the real Grateful Dead members ask him to join them on what might be the last journey.....It proves to be the best band that Phil and Bob have had since Jerry......DSO continues to evolve and thrive and wins even the oldest fans with fresh interpretations of the Grateful Dead. Whats the problem? In my opinion, you are both correct!! The only thing is, I'm pretty sure it was mostly Phil and his evil money-hungry wife, Jill , more so then Bobby.... "i don't know, don't really care. Let there BE songs to fill the air !!!" I dig Furthur. I LOVE DSO. I LOVE THE GRATEFUL DEAD!!! I am forever appreciative of ALL these opportunities Beyond all this? FUCK OFF!!!! again... I agree!

So in the midst of all this Jill hate...I would like to share what I have experienced.First off I do listen to what the people say...but try to not make judgements about people before I know myself. I've been seeing Phil play very steadily in all his bands. There is one thing that is constant at almost EVERY show all around the country. Jill is there in the crowd. She doesn't spend all her time back stage or in the soundboard box....She is in the mix. She takes her time to find the energy in the crowd. Throughout this Furthur experience she has added herself to the dance scene with eyes closed, hips swaying and LOVE that is contagious. Her energy is curious, proud and always positive as a fellow concert goer. Phil and Jill are real people. They are not cartoon characters from from an evil planet. I see no greed. Yes they like to sell tickets to keep the wheels turnin. As far as a wife thats evil...I see the opposite. I see a deadicated wife that wants a good scene at her husbands shows. Its all just such a waste of energy to hate.

Its all just such a waste of energy to hate. While many of you are sick of the so called "hate" towards further, most have had it wrong the whole time (at least with me). You assume it is hate because you see "f%#k further" etc.. You know the old saying about ass u me? I have a PROBLEM (not hate) with the actions of the old guard and I believe that's where the bad taste in some mouths, comes from. There is no doubt at this point that further is messing with DSO and their schedule. If you can't see that then you have a bigger problem that requires professional attention. I have been to a handful of frthr shows and enjoyed SOME of their music....and am planning to see them again. Don't believe that is hate. While you can't see greed, because its not tangible, it exists. Tbonez, you are in the minority with jilly-bean.....numerous stories to contradict your "good wife" theory. Guess I'm assuming their not real people, just by their actions!

I must have missed her in the madness @ the Hammerstien Ballroom shows(12/8,9/2009)-Where the 3000 person capacity was exceeded by 1000 or more dancers. We spent an hour & 1/2 waiting for the band to take the stage(on the rail/center stage)gotto know most people in the front few rows-No Jill ! I guess they gotta a right to sell as many tickets as they want-The wheel really turned @ those shows (No hatred intended!) Peace, Rob

jerseyboys
i just want to say a thing or two about the furthur business. when i first heard about it, my immediate reaction was one of excitement and imagination. really, i was excited about john playing with these two guys of, in my mind, unimaginable musical proportions, and meandering as close - in the flesh - as one can to the visual presence of jer. (for me, this is a stunning visualization, im just into that facet of the weird). in fact, i was so excited that i dreamt up an idea of discussing the whole gd musical progression in a journalistic way, and i gave it a shot. i didn't initially consider how the other members in dso felt, and i tended to disregard a lot of the negativity i saw in many people's reactions. i fell way short of even. i guess i was looking for the silver lining, and should have seen the touch of grey. i don't know. so much seems so silly now. what i will say is i missed a lot the nuances that i claimed to uncover. it's weird. it just slips away. i don't know that any of it is worth getting too upset about, even if your plans and expectations have been changed significantly. i have seen in strange ways how this stuff tends to work itself out, one way or another. that seems to be the magic behind the music. i mean jer once spoke of an analogy to music, he was riding in a car, probally all stoned and high, passing an apple orchard. at first, the arrangement of trees seemed totally random or out of order, then it shifted, and suddenly, the trees were all aligned in perfect infinitie arrangements. he said that's how music is, when you look at it right. well, if you can boil it down to that, sure has come a long way. so back to furthur. i guess what excited me about furthur was its namesake itself. i imagined somehow a furtherance of the gd. (which is what excited me about dso all along .. i didn't personally feel a conflict in it, i try to take each thing as if it were the real thing). in fact, in oakland on show 1, i remember talking to someone in the know, and hearing how they would showcase new songs by jk and the band, and whatnot. then, they've come out with straight dead shows, which sure works by me. but in any event, i was excited to see how they would take the music beyond. and so, if i have a criticism of the music, i would say, i am frustrated about the music itself. yes, its great to hear grate renditions of all these classic songs, and keeping the business alive. but i can't get by on nostalgia alone. in the shows they've done, there has definitely been some great moments and some real serious jams, but at the same time, i get the sense from this band of not really have a sense of destiny, a vision of a place we've never been, or even perhaps the will to imagine one. sometimes it feels like bobby really wants to drive it. you can see him get posessed by it an turn it on, after all, we know how jk can do that to people. but sometimes, i got a notion we're all at sea. sometimes i felt frustrated with dso for that reason. it was like they were too good, too flawless, almost like it was mechanical, too easy. i didn't want to see a great orchestra, i wanted to see and feel the gd, if i could. now, after jk leaves, dso is riding high in the wind, pushing the envelope further and further. its really grate! i mean, im lost. i thought i understood, now i feel like a stranger, maybe that's how it outght to be. i don't know. so? what i do know is that the jer was very clearly and plainly into the weird. its always been a driving force and thematic paradigm of the music and the whole scene. it encompasss a great many philosophies and it seems to be at work again here. what a great time of uncertainty. what a great many horizons all rising and falling as one. jerseyboys
Hexagram 17 - Following / SUI Move with the Flow, strong, natural attraction; inevitable, natural, correct; influence, guidance. Following describes your situation in terms of being drawn forward. The way to deal with it is to follow the inevitable course of events. Go with the flow. Yield to the path set out in front of you. Be guided by the way things are moving. You are involved in a series of events that are firmly connected. Don't fight it, move with it. It opens a whole new cycle of time. This is not a mistake. The situation cannot harm you. This is pleasing to the spirits. Through it they will give you success, effective power and the capacity to bring the situation to maturity. Says the Oracle. Not sure what it means, i think it means i don't need to know what it means, just follow one step after the other, moving with whatever arises. That is pleasing. I will see what arises tomorrow, but i have a feeling where I am heading now. Will be a good run. Chuck, thanks. "Stimulating words in the outer world stir-up following within." Guest Lisacat
Again.... DSO WILL NOT BE PLAYING NOKIA FOR THANKSGIVING!!! Furthur hasn't offically announced their fall tour, but they will be near if not in the venue's DSO usually plays during their November/December run... If you want a DSO Thanksgiving, start looking for plane tickets in and around the SF Bay area... I'm pretty damn excited about NOT having thanksgiving at the nokia. I said last year that was my last time joining that freakin circus. Now should be interesting what happens with the annual events in Santa cruz over thanksgiving and who knows I may not even have to fly! traditional thanksgiving dinner at L-cat's may be on as per usual.
