SeanAY
The "Other Bands" forum wasn't OK when people were excited about Furthur and talking about it because it was "disrespectful" to DSO...but now it is OK when Starheads are more or less trashing Furthur? Maybe it really is time to get rid of this board.

Maybe this will help.........It's all good for our musical scene/There's more GD music than ever/Phil really loves Bobby/The bands are working together to promote GD music to the masses/etc.... Feel better now? Peace, Rob
SeanAY
Look, I love DSO, and I haven't seen Furthur. The only member of Furthur I've ever personally interacted with is JK, while in comparison I've gotten the pleasure to speak with nearly everyone in DSO, all of them stand-up guys (and one stand-up lady). Am I supposed to feel guilty or bad, though, because I've listened to the Furthur shows and happen to really enjoy them? Am I not a real DSO fan because of the present situation? Because sometimes I come on this site and that's how I think people want me to feel. Quite frankly, considering the world we live in today, I can think of many more things to lose sleep over. Forum MVP Tom Banjo Posted April 27, 2010 Forum MVP Report Share Posted April 27, 2010 Some have created an "us" vs "them" vibe about the whole Furthur/DSO thing. It easy for people that have been bitten by bad energy trolls to feel the need to express negativity about things they don't like or things that frustrate them. The quest for the all mighty dollar seems highly important to some around here. Thank God DSO still plays this music because they love it because some, if not all, of them could be making more money doing something else. And let's also be thankful that Phil and Bobby have a good band going regardless of their intentions (which I think we know nothing about and there are probably several sides to the story). Just enjoy the music.
SeanAY
Well said, rickE. These things happen. And quite honestly, I don't begrudge anyone good enough to make such amazing music the right to make money, lots of it if it's out there. Specifically, let's speak about this Columbus show. As I stated before, the folks of DSO are not just fantastic musicians, but fantastic people as far as I can tell. My interactions with them are OVERWHELMINGLY positive. But we're talking about MUSIC, and now and then you have to make choices about how you spend your musical dollar. Believe it or not, attendance is not mandatory. More often than not, my finances force me to choose between concerts; not as to which show I'll see this weekend, but which show I'll see this month. If Furthur is not your priority, don't go to their show; don't complain about their supposed "evil" for scheduling the show the same weekend. I can't imagine the Ledges will see a huge reduction in people because of a one-night stand in Columbus. The people that would have come to Gratefulfest in the first place will not abandon the Ledges for the weekend because of Furthur. If your priority is the Ledges...well, then, you'll be at the Ledges. Me? I'll be at the Ledges without a doubt. So, in conclusion, what are we even complaining about? Breathe in, breathe out, hooosah!

Breathe in, breathe out, hooosah! SOme bands have also been know to purposefully drop the freakin hammer when they know that attendance is low due to another concert going on. Kind of like a little dig to show them that they may have made the wrong choice this time around. Not that I think the Ledges will have low attendence just an FYI for those lucky enough to be that that they should hold onto their seats as it could be one hell of a ride. Right, no one is saying furthur sucks, just that they don't play GD music as good as 7 or 6 non-original members. That is what it sounds like they are saying.Jerry showed us it's not always about playing hard or fast the subtle times and quiet moments sometime are the best.By now both these bands know what works for them. And it's up to us decide what works for us!!!!Go where ever that is for you.I will be on Furthur's bus for the duration.I will come back to DSO when I can ,but my priorities are set!!!!SEE YOU there!!!!!!! Well, I tried to resist your assault on this band & it's fans, but have failed! You will not convince us that we need to go to Furthur shows.....I never went &saw Phil/Bobbie's bands after 8/95,until 2009(led back to the music by DSO) Truth be told-I only went to see futhur because of JK-When he sings, they shine! When your boys sing Garcia songs, I feel sick to my stomach(Yes I know they own the rights to those songs, but so do many of the GD family & I don't want to hear the roadies sing them either)! You need to consider that your pushing some of us away from furthur....Is this how you build a fan base? Why not go back to waiting tables-I bet you were one hell of a waitress! SeanAY
Alright, I'm officially finished with this thread. Forget I ever said anything. What I thought was a simple, valid question (ok...admittedly asked with a note of sarcasm) has just turned into another turf war. I don't see why it's wrong to enjoy and support BOTH bands. I don't think that's unreasonable. But I guess some people cannot be pleased. This thread shan't see my shadow again. See you at a DSO show sometime soon...or will someone tell me that I'm not welcome, either?
