airtimejunkie
Henry J. Kaiser Convention Center, Oakland, CA (3/3/87) Quinn the Eskimo Greatest Story Ever Told Loser New Minglewood Blues Tons of Steel Cassidy Mississippi Half-Step Promised Land Iko Iko Saint of Circumstance Terrapin Station drums Gimme Some Lovin' Wharf Rat Throwin' Stones Touch of Grey Brokedown Palace * I left right after Touch of Grey so I am not sure if any filler music was played. This was my first show since JK's departure. I enjoyed the show a lot. Stu sounded good and there were a few times when his playing took me "to the zone." Rob was off the hook last night. He sounded really good. This was the first time the band played at this venue. While the venue was cool with cushy reserved seats, the security left something to be desired. As you entered the venue, you had to walk between 3-4 security guards who were dressed like they were ready for battle. Once inside, security guards were positioned around the venue, including one in the front-right side who, at times, put on his big leather gloves to look bad ass I suppose. It was a bit overkill. The place was not even close to being sold out, so there was a lot of space to dance around. I'm glad I made the trek from the bay area to Modesto to see the show. However, next time I'll opt for the SF shows since those venues are more "party favor" friendly. Kevin

Quinn was the first song tell all ... glad you enjoyed ... sorry the venue was a little stiff ... Yep, I sure did! Anyhow, while security was a bit stiff, the staff was friendly, and the theater was pretty cool and easy to move around in. It was still a fun show! I would like to see DSO return to the Fox Theatre in Redwood City sometime. Kevin

The sound quality was the best I have ever heard, and the venue is drop-dead gorgeous. I was really hoping for DSO to return there. Sadly, this theatre went into forclosure and the doors have been closed. Hopefully, it will be revived, but the future is uncertain at present. I'll agree with you about the sound quality there! The last time DSO played there, it was so much fun! I also saw a couple of Neil Young & Crazy Horse rehearsal shows there many years ago and they were fab as well! Thanks for the info. Kevin
dancinfool
I LOVE the sleeper shows!!!! I scour the tour list trying to pick the shows where there will be less than 200 people and therefore a private party just for us! I knew Modesto was the One on this tour. Tons of room to dance and a great show to boot! after being stuck in the back in SF I was so glad to be up front and able to really watch the on-stage musical interaction. It was great fun. The venue let us outside whenever we wanted and there was no enforcement presence on the street - just inside weak on the beer selection and I could have done without the live Budweiser ad at the beginning of the second set - I am sure these things are connected after 8 shows I have to say its getting better every night So Cal here we come!!! Forum MVP Rbarracoph Posted April 28, 2010 Forum MVP Report Share Posted April 28, 2010 First time Tons of Steel was played since Scotty passed away... We have played it 4 or five times over the 5 year stretch that I've been in the band. I'm gonna make sure it becomes a regular in the elective sets. Peace, RB
